Description

Clear Creek is a Virginia course name that can refer to a few different operations, but the common thread is typically “regional daily-fee golf” with a straightforward, player-friendly setup. Expect a practical layout where shot selection and avoiding penalty areas matter more than navigating overly dramatic gimmicks. The best way to score on a course like this is usually to keep the ball in play and take advantage of reachable par fives or shorter par fours when they present themselves. Facilities and vibe tend to be relaxed—more about steady pace and value than high-end country-club presentation. If you’re building a Virginia play list, Clear Creek fits as a dependable local round that rewards clean fundamentals.

It is a fun course. Front 9 plays easier than the back 9. Narrow fairways on the back. 16, 17 and eighteen are really fun finishing holes. Stop on 17 and take in the beautiful view it is gorgeous.

Course is in good shape and very scenic. But, you may have to play it a few times to understand it. If you struggle with tee shots, you might want to take a few more balls, lol.

Right at 4 star. Greens are well maintained, which is the most important part. However, the "fairway" is chunked up clay in many spots. At one time you tell it was well cared for because you can see the good grass in places but I imagine as cost increased for fertilizers and maintenance they couldn't keep up and decided to let it go somewhat. The rough is nothing but tall backyard fescue. Imagine your backyard not mowed for several weeks. The greens though, are competitive with any private course. The layout is great, for the front 9. Number 8 is a picture perfect peninsula green. The back side, as you cross over a dam, after number 10 you'd better use range balls because you're going to lose them. The fairways are only about 25 yards wide and because of the unmowed fescue if you're not in the fairway you've lost your ball. I lost 5 that couldn't be no more then 20 feet off the fairway because I saw them hit the fairway and roll out. Better go with a local so you know where to hit on some holes. Just too challenging for someone that's never played there before. I was glad I played there but I won't be back. Only because of the way too narrow farrow with unmowed fescue situation. If they would maintain the rough area to where you don't lose a ball everytime you roll off the narrow fairway, ok. But until then I'm not losing another $15 worth of golf balls on this place.
