Description

Sweetwater Country Club (Pecan) is one of two courses at this family-friendly Sugar Land club. The Pecan Course is tree-lined, strategic, and deceptively tough, with small greens and a traditional routing. It provides a quieter, more classic feel compared to the more open Cypress layout. Members enjoy league play, swim and tennis programs, and dining. Pecan delivers consistency and old-school charm.

The golf course view is beautiful but the food was not so good. Salad was on the table but no salad dressing. We asked for vinegar and oil but the waiter brought back ranch dressing.

I visited Sweetwater Country Club for a private function, and this place is something of delight! I had no idea this golf course was Sugarland, TX. It's nicely tucked away from the Highway 59 with large open areas, within an gorgeous and exquisite community. I loved the upgrades they've been doing here starting with the inside breakfast and diner area. It looks very modern, highly appealing. Great valet service and just the sheer amount of golf carts available, that was very nice for everyone who came out from around the state. The staff is wonderful, very helpful throughout the two days I was there. I was also very impressed with Karma DJs audio and video team. They brought out a great sound system and some very large tvs on stands or trusses, had to be to more than 70 inches, so we all could see what was displayed very well while in the Ballroom area. The food provided was spectacular as well. Very happy at how everything turned out and with all that given for the cause. Looking forward to coming back soon.

I would not pay 12K a year for a membership here. Nor would I have host banquets here to serve my guests. I was given 3 moldy tomatoes my second day there to serve in sandwiches. I complained to the Food and Beverage director. After being there for only a week they failed a health inspection. The sidewalks on the course which you are meant to drive on with carts are seriously cracked and need to be fixed. The pool bar has rat feces… The female restrooms on the golf course have a detached toilet seat so female members can’t even use them. The restrooms are also covered in wasp nests and spiderwebs… Two female members asked me if we had a gas leak inside the club, which I forwarded their concerns to management. In doing so managers were annoyed with me because I told them that members were asking and complaining about the smell of gas. he snack bar area did not contain sanitation sprays for use while I was there. Some of the long term employees don’t even use soap when rinsing items. The refrigerators are moldy. Beverage carts are not cleaned on a daily basis which they should be because they serve food and drinks. Instead, they have a layer of dirt in them. I would recommend a serious deep cleaning of the club and a change in management. They need managers who care about guests and members experience, safety, and health as well as know how to communicate properly and efficiently. They openly will discriminate based on culture. I told the GENERAL MANAGER as well as the FOOD AND BEVERAGE DIRECTOR being there around constant mold and harassment was affecting my health. This as well as members complaints while I was there did not concern them. If you ask for HR Contact don’t be surprised if they tell you it isn’t necessary like they did with me.

Sadly the ownership of the club is a for profit private group of individuals located in San Antonio. This club has changed hands several times because each only viewed the club as a short term investment to turn a profit, then it's sold. This club in it's hay day was home to the LPGA, over the years the course has never been renovated and deteriorated. Courses require renovation and re-grassing every 15-20 years to maintain quality conditions. This course hasn't been done since it was built in the 70's. The greens are rounded and no where near original design. The topsoil is mostly clay and prevents adequate growth. The grass is now a mix of grasses due to contamination over the many years. During one year the super intendent was fired and blamed for the conditions although it wasn't his fault. The club's course budget is far less than typical 36 hole private clubs with quality courses. The water restrictions by the county don't help, and the man power for the agriculture is lower than quality private clubs. Riverbend nearby is better in terms of course quality, although it too is now in need of re-grassing. One last area of note, since it's private the owners will always rent out the venue at the expense of the members to earn a buck. So there are times you won't have access. If you want a social life with tennis and average at best golf then consider this club. Else look elsewhere, the quality is far better outside this club.
