TPC San Antonio - Canyons

Description

The Canyons Course, designed by Pete Dye, provides a striking contrast to its neighboring Oaks layout. Wider fairways and more dramatic elevation changes make it visually stunning and slightly more forgiving for recreational players. The routing takes advantage of the rolling Hill Country landscape, with several holes playing dramatically uphill or downhill. Dye’s influence is evident in the strategic bunkering and risk-reward opportunities scattered throughout the course. It’s a favorite among guests for its blend of challenge, beauty, and playability, complementing the more demanding Oaks Course perfectly.

Played the Canyons today, overall it was a nice experience. I'm a little surprised/doubtful that Pete Dye designed this course. It's fairly mundane, bordering on boring, very much not what I would expect from a Dye course. I expect to hit a good shot, then get to where I expect the ball to be and it very much not be there. Other than the meh layout, the conditions were good, the staff was friendly, and the facilities are what you'd expect from a course of this caliber. Lastly, paying to park is super annoying.

Played yesterday- was disappointed with the condition of the greens! For the $400 price would have thought the course would have been pristine but was just the opposite. Would never play this course again. Grill closed , lack of ice/water on course with temps around 100.

Quite a gem to have in San Antonio but honestly was underwhelmed with it overall. Maybe it's just the aeration season but the greens were sub-par. Very technical with many bunkers. Not very scenic overall. Don't get me wrong, it's a gem of a place but maybe my expectations were too high. Will visit again.

We visited last weekend and, unfortunately, were very underwhelmed. The only highlight was the time spent with friends and the laughs we shared while dodging construction equipment and essentially off-roading in the golf cart just to navigate the course. We understand that upgrades are sometimes necessary, but at $325 per round, guests should be informed ahead of time that their game will be interrupted by loud construction noise, messy areas, and equipment scattered throughout the course. It was concerning to only discover this at hole 2. Additionally, the grill was closed, we only saw a cart girl once the entire round, and the overall appearance of the course felt unkept. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of expectations, and we will not be returning. For anyone considering playing here, do your research first.

This place doesn't disappoint. Staff friendly and accommodating. Played The Oaks course which whe was in great condition, even with the work being done to change the sands on the bunkers to sparkling white sand. And a few greens not being 100% The course is slow build to a spectacular back nine. Deep bunkers all around , hard greens to read, lost of suttle movement and undulating. Its sneaky long, you feel like your always 175-200yds out. Its a must play if you get the opportunity. I will be back and redeem myself after beating I took.
