Flying L Golf: Did not stay on property so there is no opinion on rooms. Location is easy to find just outside Bandera. Played golf at 11:00 on a Wednesday. There was plenty of parking available. No one met us to get our clubs or greet us. That’s a missed opportunity for service to a visitor. After we check in, they provide the balls you pay an additional amount for practice. The driving range is a bit of a drive from the clubhouse. It’s not all that nice with lots of weeds and not very well maintained. When it was time to tee off there was no starter or someone to point is in the right direction and no visible signage. Most of the players were finished when we got done in 3 hrs and 15 minutes for a twosome. We went into the bar area for a drink and found the wines to be very average if not the typical low end house wine. I played here 25 or so years ago. I loved the woodsy and hill country feel. Now there are tons of houses around the property and not all were well kept or lovely to look at. I guess that’s the price of progress and time. The feel is completely different. The course is fairly easy and being older ladies, the two of us played from the red tees. Some of the tee boxes were just markers on the fairway and less than a real designated tee area. Some of the fairways were overly encroached with weeds. That’s sad since the club was closed for quite some time for renovations. The greens had nice grass but some had weeds you had to putt around, then there were some holes in the grass, possibly bad growth or some deer tracks tearing them up-or a little of both. We noticed that the grass was growing over the edges of the cart path. A little edging would go a long way to enhance the overall appearance and perception of good maintenance. Overall, the convenience and price was acceptable but I don’t necessarily need to play here again.

Had to pay for four folks after two dropped out since they have a 24 hour policy. That’s right…$362 for two folks to play. Greens are rougher than you would expect being new. The GPS carts continue to mess up and lock up if it thinks you’re in a restricted area (we were on cart path next to tee box). As a local, thoughts of a membership vanished in a day. In response to the “reply”….I specifically asked the staff not to be paired with other folks since I was paying for 4 players. I was told inside the pro shop that would be the case and then outside I was told differently. I said I would be glad to play with others, but needed a refund since there was no issue filling the slots. I was told no. Flying L lost lots of money from me with so many others courses to play at significantly better prices that match the quality of course. You got the two extra rounds from me, but as a local hill country resident… you lost A LOT of future rounds from me. If you read others reviews, I’m not the only one who has experienced GPS cart issues.

Course is in excellent shape as of 5/22/25. Greens are really nice, some of the best I've seen recently around SA & Hill Country area. Friendly staff, decent little bar & grill, overall great value.

My family and I went for the stay and play. It was a great experience because it was exactly what we were looking for. Shout out to Buck! He made the experience fun specially for everyone! (Wagon ride is very worth it!) Next day we hit the golf course and yes maybe 3, 4 greens are still recovering but it is not as bad as people make it seem. Or at least now as of recent. This course is beautiful, it is in great shape and It has very nice greens. The staff was super nice. My family and I love it. We will be back and I will bring all my group of golf buddies to play in this hidden gem!

I've played golf here a handful of times now. This course is in amazing shape, it's an interesting design, the bunkers are the best in the SA area, and every staff member has been very friendly. At $85 a round, Flying L is cheaper than most courses in the area. I would argue that this course is on par with the likes of La Cantera, Canyon Springs, Tapatio Springs, etc. All of which are $120+ rounds minimum on weekends. Finally, the bunkers have to be talked about separately. They have a larger grain sand, which is white granite, in them. At first it felt a little odd and soft but they played so well that I'm a convert. The club felt like it was moving through fluffy sand you see at high end courses and it was a consistent feeling no matter the shot.
