I've played golf here a handful of times now. This course is in amazing shape, it's an interesting design, the bunkers are the best in the SA area, and every staff member has been very friendly. At $85 a round, Flying L is cheaper than most courses in the area. I would argue that this course is on par with the likes of La Cantera, Canyon Springs, Tapatio Springs, etc. All of which are $120+ rounds minimum on weekends. Finally, the bunkers have to be talked about separately. They have a larger grain sand, which is white granite, in them. At first it felt a little odd and soft but they played so well that I'm a convert. The club felt like it was moving through fluffy sand you see at high end courses and it was a consistent feeling no matter the shot.

Want to preface this review by mentioning the last time we golfed here (Nov 2024), the front 9 greens were destroyed due to "acid burns". They still proceeded to charge us full price which was around 100 bucks. Nowhere on their website did they mention the front 9 greens would be basically unplayable; We drove in from San Antonio so we were basically stuck paying the price. Fast forward to this year (Oct 25, 2025), we thought it would be a good idea to try the course out again. Unfortunately, about an inch of rain had dropped that morning so I called up the pro shop and was told the course would remain open and that if we cancelled, we'd be charged the price of the round. So we drive to Flying L from San Antonio to play the round and get charged the full amount ~$100 each. We make it to hole 3 before we are called into the pro shop for lightning. We get sent back out after about 20 minutes. Make it another 1.5 holes before we are called back in because of lightning. It has been pouring most of the time at this point, so the fairways and tee boxes are being flooded out. When we get to the pro shop, I ask about a potential rain check (not even a refund). We are told they will asses the course condition and make a decision from there. We are again sent out after around 20 minutes into the conditions shown in the pictures below. Can confidently say we will never be back to this course. Too often these days, these golf courses are putting money over the golfer's experience. I know they can't control the rain, but you can control how you treat your customers. It's a shame that greedy management can ruin such a beautiful course.

Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. Greens rolled so true !!! Definitely worth the drive coming from San Antonio. Played on a Friday with no one on the course. Couldn’t believe it! Hidden gem for San Antonians !!

I played Flying L for the first time this week. This is a nice course, with a comfortable layout that is well maintained in all aspects. Also, plenty of friendly staff to help you get started. Highly recommend this course!

Flying L golf course is terrible! Booked an $85 tee time online (mediocre course) and when you get there they charge you another $20 for a cart. The golf carts are micromanaged by the “pro shop” so when you drive to find your ball, they deactivate your cart!! You’ll have to wait 5 minutes for them to send a signal to reactivate the cart or it goes on a timer (from the Marshall). Therefore, you have to push your cart out!! Terrible place to drive 45 minutes to = waste of time and money! Trees everywhere and you can’t tell where most fairways are.
