Description

A Rees Jones design in Mount Pleasant, Charleston National blends marsh vistas, lagoons, and pine corridors into a varied test. The finishing stretch demands committed tee shots to set up approach angles into elevated greens. Five tee sets stretch the course to just over 7,000 yards while keeping it enjoyable for mid-handicappers. A public practice range and short-game area support plenty of pre-round reps.

This is great track. Sure there are problems. It's a public golf course. Sometimes the greens are slow. Sometimes the pace of play is slow. But it's also got a lot of personality. The back 9 has beautiful iconic landscapes. It's a shot makers course. It's not driver off every hole. They just made some improvements to the cart paths and bridges and hoping they improve the restroom situation. If you visit Charleston and you're a golfer, this is a course worth playing.

Fun but often challenging g course with an abundance of marsh hazards, greens are well kept but the players could be a bit more diligent with fixing their divets. There’s always a friendly cart girl ready to supply you with snacks and drinks, most people who play here aren’t that terrible so pace of play tends to be pretty good. My pops said they just re did the cart paths and acquired new carts which def shows. All in all a fun local course.

Pace is slow not crazy slow but slow. I was a single and had 3 some in front for last 5 holes. I asked to join was told no and couldn't play through. I saw a ranger once all round. The good the course is in nice shape , greens fast. The cart girl super nice and inside staff super nice also. I would play again when in town

Played here while visiting Charleston and it was a beautiful, well maintained course. It plays pretty open with lots of sand and hazards. Front 9 was pretty short yardage wise with many doglegs. Greens are slower than what im used to after a recent rain. I had a twilight tee time, $56 for 18 but pace of play was pretty slow. Was able to finish 9. Club rental was $35 Cart included with $56 green fee $5 for small range bucket Good beer selection upstairs in the bar. If I moved to Charleston would definitely become a member. 4 stars because slow pace of play and I called many times in the afternoon to ask about club rentals and nobody ever picked up, they seem short staffed.

I've been a full dues paying member here since 2019 and the quality of golf has been steadily decreasing ever since. Full disclosure, I just ended my membership after the annual price increase and brand new monthly minimums. Here are my very common grievances: - 8 minute tee time spacing is criminal. In the hundreds of rounds I've played here, I doubt I've ever gone off on time. This is not hyperbolic, I think it has literally been 0% on time. - Most starters seem to do whatever they feel like. I often get groups let off in front of me that say they have tee times that don't exist ("We're the 7:04" when there's a 7:00 and a 7:08 waiting to tee off). The starters seem to play favorites. - The rangers are so ineffective it's gotten humorous, it's a running joke when me and my friends see them drive by. I regrettably lost my cool with one of them a few weeks ago because he drove past a fivesome in front of my group and just waved at them, meanwhile the entire course is backed up (per usual). - I've actually been told to slow down before because I was encroaching on the group ahead of me. I wasn't hitting into anyone or playing inconsiderately, I just often happen to be standing at my ball playing ready golf when the group ahead is still finishing their hole. - The senior league is a shotgun start that seems to be let out on the course despite regular play tee times being on the same hole, I think it's Wednesday mornings. For instance, I'll often reach the back nine and all of a sudden a few foursomes appear directly in front of me on the next few holes. -The pace of play is a bit worse than average. It's not egregious but it does feel bad having to wait on nearly every shot. If I can go to muni and have better pace than here, it feels like a solvable issue. -The pro shop and/or membership directors have been a problem for me on more than one occasion. The major one being one month when I had some extra charges on my account that made no sense. There were a few 18 hole rounds on my account when I had played alone the entire month, why would I be incurring greens fees for others if I only played alone? I wasn't given the benefit of the doubt and was forced to pay. It just never felt like anyone cared about the members. Upon canceling my membership, the response was effectively "sorry to hear that, please pay your bill in full" -To be fair the incompetence of the pro shop has often worked in my favor as well. Whenever I have a guest play with me it feels like they make up whatever rate they want, it's often very cheap or free. I was always appreciative but it felt like a crapshoot every time we went in to pay for guest play. -There is now a monthly minimum on food and bev, which would normally be fine but the food is almost inedible and I'm sober so there isn't a lot of beverages to spend the money on. An example, the hot dogs are served on sub rolls. Full disclosure, I haven't bought food here since 2020, so things might have improved. In the end it just feels like another way to nickel and dime the members, further emphasizing the priority placed on the bottom line and not the quality of golf. I have politely complained to various staff about all of these issues throughout my years here and things have only gotten worse. I can't in good faith continue to support a course that puts profit so far ahead of the golfer's enjoyment. 2 stars because I really like the course itself and the head pro has always been an awesome guy.
