Description

Raven’s Claw is a standout SEPA public course that offers a modern, championship-feeling round with strong conditioning and real shot value. The layout typically rewards committed driving—preferred lines and angles are clearly defined, and misses can be punished by hazards and rough. It’s a course that separates scores through approach play and short game, especially when greens are firm and pins are tucked. The facility is popular for outings and competitive rounds because it feels polished and “premium” for public golf. Overall, it’s a top-tier daily-fee experience: strategic, memorable, and built to challenge without being unfair.

I had an absolute blast playing at Raven’s Claw with my buddies recently! Despite the recent up-and-down weather, the course was in stellar condition, with fairways pristine and greens rolling at a perfect speed—not too slow, not ridiculously fast. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, creating a private club-like vibe that elevated the experience. I ended up playing one of my best rounds of the year, making Raven’s Claw a must-return destination!

The course was beautifully maintained. The starter was very helpful when we told him it was our first time playing there. The reason why it gets a 2 star is because we booked a twilight T Time. The hope of getting done before dark was quickly eliminated when there was a group of 6 squeezed into one T-Time in front of us. Considering this course is more expensive and more high end than others in the area, you would think it would be held to a higher standard. The reason for a group of 6 going before us was because they were “members”. I’ve never played on a course that allowed a group of 6 share a T-Time. Members of not, twilight golf or not, standards and rules should be met and upheld. Especially on a course that’s as expensive and high end as Ravens Claw.

Really nice course. Played it a few weeks ago and was in very nice condition. Good fairways and tee boxes, thick rough and very nicely maintained greens.

Nicely laid out course. Very accommodating staff as our conference was hosted here for two days. Course Architect Ed Shearin shared his philosophy on the layout and we had a great time! The food was fabulous!

(Extended Review) Raven’s Claw might remind you of “The Simpson’s”, with the towers from Limerick Nuclear Power Plant looming in the background, but this course is the opposite of an animated comedy. In fact, you’ll feel like your playing at Monty Burns’ personal country club. The architecture of this golf course impresses, as there are very few uninteresting holes and there’s a good chance you might find your new favorite. The first hole, a par 5, sports the remnants of an old wall that sets the stage for the rest of the round by letting you know your playing someplace special. As you wind through the development surrounded holes, you can definitely tell the course came first and no expense was spared. The rise in elevation provides excellent views, but don’t get lost in the clouds as the enormous, fast, and deceptive greens can easily result in lots of putts if you get distracted and don’t place yourself close to the pin on approaches. The course is well manicured and generally in excellent shape, enough to host professional events. Stock up before your round or hope you see the beverage cart, as you won’t be anywhere near the clubhouse after the 9th. Fortunately, you’ll forget all about that as the 10th hole hits you with a par 5, the 11th hole (my favorite) includes a landing area cut out of the side of a hill, and the 12th hole has you teeing off to a fairway with an eye-shaped bunker staring right at you (hit it to the right of it, if you can). Covid restrictions may result in an after-round drink or food on the outdoor patio, which is too bad since the clubhouse is very nice. There’s a lot to love at Raven’s Claw. Great condition. Beautiful scenery. Fun and challenging design. Large, difficult greens. Plus, a well respected head PGA professional (Jim Bromley) still willing to give lessons. With very few downsides (a little pricey for the location), Raven’s Claw should be on your short list. A MUST play, and I’ll bet if you play it once, you’ll definitely want to play it again.
