Description

Walnut Lane is a classic city golf experience—accessible, community-forward, and designed for repeat rounds. The course typically rewards keeping the ball in play and choosing smart targets into greens, since urban layouts can punish wild misses more than you’d expect. It’s a popular league and regulars course, with a steady pace and a “locals’ muni” vibe that makes it easy to play often. Scoring usually comes down to approach control and putting, especially when greens are running well. Overall, it’s authentic Philly municipal golf: practical, welcoming, and built for frequent play.

To clarify, my 3 stars are not intended to knock this course down. There are absolutely good things about it. Rates are fair for what you're getting. I appreciate that there are accessible and affordable courses like this where newer players won't feel intimidated to come out and play. It's a course in the city with no par 5s. Some chainlink fences will wrap around the playing area. Some of the tee boxes and fairways were in dire shape. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the greens! It appears they're putting a lot of care into them. I'm optimistic that they'll continue to make improvements for the better! Go give em a shot.

After more than 15 years away from Walnut Lane Golf Club, I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements. I had attempted to play late last year but decided against waiting due to frost. Finally getting back out on the course, I noticed several positive changes. While the parking lot remains the same, the pro shop building is completely new. The addition of a small but inviting restaurant and bar adds to the experience, and the pro shop offers a solid selection of gear. There are also dedicated spaces for training facilities or meetings, which is a nice touch. The golf carts are well maintained, making for a smooth ride around the course. As for the course itself, the improvements are noticeable. The fairways are in good shape, and the small greens provide a fun yet challenging test. There were a few patches under repair, but overall, Walnut Lane remains a solid public course. I’m looking forward to returning for another round soon.

I recommend listening to the more recent posts that talk about how it's being improved here. Sure, it had its distressed areas, but you can tell they're doing great work on the place. Most of the greens and tee boxes were in very good shape, and even most of the fairways were well watered and mowed. Yes, if you shank one into the fringe area, its going to be a bare lie, and the traps won't be like a white sand beach, but only the most expensive courses can keep up with that anyway. It was just over $50 with cart on a Sunday, pace was good, and if you play from the blues, its just like playing from the whites in most other places. Highly recommend.

Haven't been here for a couple of years. Wowzers. Lots of improvements! Some tough (long) par 3's. Had a blast. Paired with some locals and had a super fun round. Kind of blew our minds when the ranger came by and asked us to pick up the pace. We were behind a group right off of the first tee up until he asked us to pick up the pace. How could we possibly pick up the pace when there is a group in front of us? We only had two holes left by then anyway, so I just left shaking my head. We weren't easter egg hunting or anything. Still bewildered by that one. We are all pretty good hitters too.

This golf course is very small and nestled on the top hill of Manayunk. It has mostly par threes and is kept in good shape go in the morning or late in the evening to avoid lines and you don’t have to worry about paying too much this golf course is not very expensive. I think you’ll really enjoy it. I hope you enjoy my reviews of all these amazing places.
