Description

Middletown is a traditional small-town country club with a classic central-PA parkland feel and a welcoming, community-first atmosphere. The course typically rewards steady positioning off the tee, because finding fairways sets up manageable approaches into greens. It’s designed for repeat member play, so the challenge often shows up in subtle ways—pin placements, green contours, and learning safe misses. The vibe is social and familiar, with leagues and regular groups shaping a comfortable cadence. Overall, it’s authentic hometown club golf: understated, strategic, and built for consistent shot-making.

Middletown is a really awesome public course. The pricing is pretty reasonable. I went recently and the course was pretty fine, the greens specifically were slightly damaged, some greens have cart tracks in them and stuff - but it really didn't change much, and they are in the process of growing grass there. Just reporting the condition. I still had a blast and I will be going back. - there are tons of insects, for whatever reason. Bring spray.

Fun and challenging layout. Tee boxes are pretty rough, some of the fairways and greens are patchy. A bit over priced for the current conditions. It has been very hot and dry so I’m sure that doesn’t help. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the course, especially the starter.

As a resident of Middletown Township, I have played this course several times, although not in the 5 years at least. That said, I did expect better playing conditions. Tee boxes were all either bare, or loaded with crabgrass, meaning previously bare. Most greens and fairways were in decent shape. I appears new cart paths are in the works as there were many freshly formed dirt paths by a skid steer with a bucket. For what they charge, better overall conditions is the expectation. I've played the course in past, in better shape. Hopefully, these things will be rectified before I consider booking another tee time at my "home course".

The ownership and management here is amazing, the people are great. the shape of the course has been getting better over the years but not perfect but hey at least they are trying, two weeks ago i was watching them replace tee boxes and work on the greens. difficult course for beginners but all in all a good course

(Extensive golf course review). Yes, there are downsides. The course is older. The trees are too tall. It’s not long enough. There are a few bare spots. BUT, the design, the staff, the trickiness of the course, and (especially) the pace of play will keep you coming back. There is a real opportunity here to play 18 holes on a full par 70 course (actually 69) in less than 3 hours (sometimes less than 2:30!). A quickie, but with all the clubs used and different holes, you will not leave wanting more golf, just wanting to be better at golf. Don’t be surprised to be treated like a human being at Middletown, as the PGA pro and the shop staff will actually look at you eye to eye, engaging you in a friendly and welcoming manner instead of looking down their noses at you. That’s different. The first time I played here (several years ago) he told me “good luck finding a level spot on this course”. I disagree with him now (I found plenty in the rough) but he was right in reference to the fairway. The course plays like a mountain course, with everything “falling off” toward an unseen valley or creek, on the fairways AND the greens. Tight, sloped fairways, but forgiving rough help to lower the scores of the higher handicaps, while the uneven lies FORCE mids and lower handicaps to TRY to learn how to hit above and below your feet, or play strategically to avoid those situations. Multiple (4-5) drive-able par 4’s tease you with the very real opportunity to eagle, but after you miss the putt and fall off the green, you’ll learn your lesson. And that’s what makes Middletown great, what keeps you coming back, and what makes it five stars. Middletown presents to you a very tangible opportunity for what we all ultimately DESIRE: scoring very low, getting birdies and eagles. Then, the uneven lies tear your game to pieces and gives us what we all ultimately NEED; humility. Like a beer and grub afterwards like me? Hackers pub is soooo much more than a golf course bar. Daily specials for food and drinks brings in locals too. That burger was delicious! Never been disappointed in food here. This bar deserves more patrons.
