Description

Myrtle Creek Golf Course rolls through a scenic valley in Southern Oregon with dramatic elevation changes and mountain views. The course offers wide fairways, challenging greens, and a variety of shot-making opportunities. It's known for good conditions and a laid-back atmosphere. A great value for a round in the Umpqua Valley.

Absolute dog track. Worst part is, if you’re honest about the conditions, the owner gets defensive and calls customers “keyboard warriors.” The fairways had grass a foot tall, it took two of us nearly six hours to finish 18 holes (we’re a 6 and 12 handicap), and most of that time was spent searching for balls that should have been in play. I’ve never seen a course in this poor of shape that’s still charging people to play.

Beautiful course and layout, but the fairway grass is WAY too long. I lost 5 golf balls in the fairway and another 10 in the rough. If the course was mowed at an appropriate length, this would be one of the best courses in the state.

The course is in awesome shape. Fairways are nice, and the greens are very consistent. Will definitely play again.

This course reopened in July of 2020, after being closed for a year or so. I've played it several times since reopening, most recently 4/6/2025. The raw material is there for an incredible golf experience. An amazing layout with several memorable holes, in a gorgeous setting. Wildlife all over and only a few farmhouses in sight. Certainly not what I expected to find in this location (it's hidden back behind the town of Myrtle Creek, which isn't anything to write home about). You will want a cart for sure. Lots of hills. As of 4/6/2025, the overall course condition is...not good. Fairways were unmowed, soft, and several inches high in places. Rough was, well, rough, with lots of tall grass and wet spots. Bunkers were ugly too, hard pack with lots of weeds. Greens were in fair shape, not perfect but puttable. The pro shop guy was very friendly, apologized for the condition of the course, and gave me a discounted rate (super cheap). I was literally the only golfer there on a Sunday afternoon. Some of the condition issues can be blamed on recent heavy rains, but it's pretty obvious that the course just doesn't have the maintenance budget (or golfer traffic to generate that budget) to keep things up. Since the reopening, even at the peak of the summer season, it's ragged in places, sometimes frustratingly so. I will continue to play here occasionally when I'm in the area and want a peaceful, cheap round. However, if you're after a place to play "serious" golf on manicured grounds, this ain't it, at least not consistently. Bar Run, and to a lesser extent, Oak Hills, are nearby and better for that. 3 stars, which is too low if you catch it when they've done recent maintenance (more toward 4*, because it is a great layout and a ton of fun), and much too high if you get it when it's overgrown (2*...maybe).
