Description

The Short Course at Meriwether is a par-3 layout designed for sharpening your iron play and short game. Holes range in length but focus on accuracy and finesse rather than power. It's a great option for new golfers, families, or anyone looking to improve. Easy to walk and well-maintained, it complements the Championship course well.

A great place to learn and improve your game. My wife and I recently moved near here and decided to take up golf. We took some lessons and they’ve really paid off. We’re having fun and getting our first round in together next week!

The course is a bit overpriced for the condition. Some of the greens were in rough shape. But most of the fairways are relatively wide and flat, making it a good forgiving full course for beginner players, while a few holes have forced carries or hills to keep it interesting for intermediate players. I lost fewer balls here than on any other course in my year and a half of golfing.

This is a Tolstoy novel so buckle up y’all. Meriwether’s staff is ABSOLUTELY on par (no pun intended) with Langdon for level of happy, welcoming and positive. It doesn’t feel forced either. It just seems like they hire naturally good people who have great attitudes. Isaac and Chase in the Pro Shop are who I interact most with and my only “complaint” about Chase is that the man knows of my serious weakness for anything Nike and he always makes sure to point out all their new Nike markdowns so I inevitably buy something. In the last 2 years I have bought 3 pairs of shoes, 3 zips/jackets, 2 hats and 1 shirt from Meriwether. Damn you Chase! 😂 I also rate it 5 stars because the actual golf part of the facility has everything you need for golfers from just beginning to plus-handicap sticks. 18 hole course, 9 hole practice course, grass range, mat range, bunker practice facility, short game practice facility, full locker room to change and brand new carts with USB chargers. The best deal in Portland area golf is $139 for M-SU unlimited play on the 9-hole practice (Executive) course. It runs the 1st through the last day of every month and isn’t pro-rated. Always buy it the first week of the month to get your moneys worth. (I play 36-54 holes a weekend on it.) You can play that practice course a million different ways. Leave the big stick and woods/metals in the bag and only play irons/hybrids OR bring all 14 and challenge the two 320yd par 4s. The 18 hole course is solid and a test for any level with fantastically kept greens. One of the features of many holes on the full course is that they use dry, natural grass areas as the “rough” and those areas are either going to run your ball OB OR under trees OR give you a hard pack lie if you get lucky. So accuracy is key. The fairways are always well-kept. If you are any level of golfer and love playing golf for the actual GAME of golf, everything you need will be found at Meriwether. Except their bar doesn’t sell cigars. You have to bring your own cigars. Meriwether are my people. Thanks for taking an hour of your day to read my review. I do hope Iit helps bring you out and may you play well my friends!

Another course in the Portland/Salem area I have been wanting to try. I played here between Christmas & New Year, and with the weather this area had recently been exposed to, I thought the course was very dry. Great layout, and well maintained from tee to green. Challenging but not extremely difficult. Just a few elevation changes, and they weren't too wild. Front 9 played mostly end-to-end, and the back 9 had some holes that ran back-to-back with a couple oak groves between fairways & greens. They have a driving range and areas to chip & putt. Reasonably priced. Staff was pleasant & helpful. I would definitely play here again.

I have been coming to this course for 15+ years and it has been a decent course to play and the staff has been somewhat respectable. Just recently went in with my son to hit balls on the driving range where I was unaware of an additional $4 feet just to have a yellow bucket. When asking about why I am only getting one bucket, the staff in the pro shop had a big attitude and then asking if it is “computing” in my head. All of this going on in front of my son and other families. Needless to say I left discouraged and don’t think I will be coming back. The courses are not in great shape especially the Executive course. There are definitely other courses nearby that are cheaper and more expensive that are in better shape. Thanks for all the years Meriweather, but this place isn’t for me or my son. Also, I have donated 3 full sets of clubs in 5 years.
