Description

Echo Valley Golf Club is known for its rolling hills and open fairways. The course offers wide landing areas off the tee but demands precision into the greens. Its rural setting provides a peaceful round away from the bustle of the city. The layout balances scoring opportunities with enough hazards to keep golfers honest. It's a friendly yet engaging course for all levels.

The greens were in nice shape. The fairways were pretty good, although some puddles. Didn't think we had that much rain ... Maybe from watering! Yardage was incorrect on several holes (a couple almost 100 yards shorter); maybe that's why there's no slope rating on the score cards.

Beautiful course always in great shape! Love the variety of holes - distances, left/right doglegs, hills. Please repair ball marks and replace divots!

This place used to be the worst golf course in Lorain county and poorly maintained. These folks have put some money into the course in the last several years and it shows. The fairways are almost plush and your ball is findable in the rough The greens are absolutely huge and very puttable. This is a very challenging course from the tips with lots of scenic tough holes. Lots of decisions to lay up or go for it. It is located in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive from the Cleveland area. Just played it again after they had some bridges washed out after heavy rains. They had the place up and running in three days. The fairways were perfect and the greens were fast with lots of slope but fair. It was around $17 to walk for seniors and around $27 to ride. What a bargain! Beautiful venue through the Black River valley

A friend recommended this course years ago. He lived in the area, loved the course, but said hardly anyone played it. Time went by, I forgot about it and never played it. Around Memorial Day 2024 a few fellow golfers were looking for a place to play. One guy mentioned Echo Valley because he saw it in the Tee Time Golf book. I remembered the name and said this course came highly recommended. We both read reviews and looked at pictures, were impressed so we booked a tee time for Memorial Day. The course did not disappoint. The fairways, greens and tee boxes were all in great shape. The course is well laid out. The area around the course may be all flat farm land, but this course is blessed with elevation changes throughout. Due to the elevation changes the routing of the holes makes the course challenging. You'll need to play this course several times to be able to know where to lay up, and which club to use off the tee. The course has many interesting holes. The par 3 third hole is short, but straight uphill. There is very little room to miss the green left or right due to trees. You must carry the ball onto the green or risk the ball rolling back down the hill giving you a tough chip. Once on the green, the putt is no joke due to the green surface. The par 4 sixth hole is a dogleg right with a pond fronting the green. Even with a good drive due to the downward sloping fairway, the pond fronting the green and the wind, the approach shot is to a large green that slopes upward. Hole 7 is a long par 4 that slopes down, then flattens out. The tee shot is blind. It is important to take the correct line off the tee to set up the approach shot. A stream comes into play on the approach shot to a green with trees on both sides. The back nine is very tight but playable. This is where course knowledge becomes helpful in knowing which club to use off the tee. Driver off the tee is not always the best choice. The par 3 twelfth hole is a short hole with a pond in front, trees down the left side and behind the green to an elevated green shored up by a retaining wall. There is absolutely no place to miss. You have to hit this green. The wind is an issue. This hole is in the corner of the property at a low elevation surrounded by trees down the left side and behind the green but open to the right. The par 4 thirteenth hole is a 90° dogleg right with heavy trees on each side of the fairway for the tee shot before it opens up at the dogleg. The tee shot must clear a pond at the tee box then get thru the trees on each side of the fairway. An accurate tee shot is required to make it thru the shute of trees on each side of the fairway. Club selection is important. Once you have cleared the dogleg the approach to the green is clear. The par 5 fifteenth hole is a short hole but most of the fairway is uphill causing a blind second shot. The entire course is a shotmakers course. Accuracy off the tee is required along with knowing where in the fairway you need to be. The greens are all at a consistent speed but you need to recognize the undulations in the green surfaces to putt well. This course, for most, is a drive to get to, but it is not far from Grey Hawk. The green fees are extremely reasonable. We found the ladies in the clubhouse all to be friendly, accommodating and generally glad you choose their course to play. Give this course a try. It is a hidden gem.
