Now I know why this place always has open tee times. I cannot believe people actually pay $51 to play here... in the FALL. I walked to save a few bucks, and it still cost me $38. THIRTY EIGHT BUCKS to walk this course is... Well, they should have paid me to play here, not the other way around.
First thing's first. This place has a layout that COULD make it an actually nice, challenging course. The staff was ok I suppose, it's hard to screw up "ok that'll be $51". But quite literally everything about this course, buildings, and condition is abysmal.
You walk into what is effectively an abandoned building (the "pro shop"), nearly walk out when you find out it costs $51 but decide "meh, I've been meaning to try it out, maybe I'll like it" (spoiler alert, you know what's coming). You need to use the bathroom so you look around and find a small ambiguous sign saying "restroom" (note: not plural). It's pointing what looks like... you're not sure, into the cart storage area with no lights on inside? Surely that's not it, so you walk around the building, only to find nothing. Must be it.
Into the cart garage we go. An unmarked room, yup, you see a sink. Close the door (a deadbolt is all that holds it closed while you're inside... classy), ok, off to go play this course.
Step up to the #1 tee, it says "park here for #1 tee". Ok, put down your bag, stand on the tee box. Um... which fairway am I supposed to be hitting towards here? Oh, wait... this is #10 tee. #1 tee is about 50 yards away across the putting green. Got it.
Tee up on the blue tees and what do you have? A branch overhanging the tee box so that you need to either swing and pray, or play a giant right to left shot just to get into the fairway. Fair enough, call the complete lack of course maintenance a challenge...
During the course of your round, you will see:
- Teeboxes with thistle weeds growing up in them (no, not just a few)
- Teeboxes with more rock hard dirt spots than grass
- Teeboxes that are, quite literally, thicker than the rough
- Uncovered drainage holes that could literally have a full grown adult fit into them (the one in the picture is at least 20 inches, possibly 22 or 24)
- Fairways that are 70% dirt and 30% grass
- Overgrown weed trees and bushes overhanging into the natural line of play on teeboxes
- Mini bunkers on greens
- Shared tees going in different directions for different holes
During your round, you WON'T see a teebox that isn't sloped or completely lumpy.
The one saving grace, kinda, is that despite their being in mediocre shape, the greens at least rolled somewhat consistent speeds. I wouldn't say straight, but I wouldn't say horribly bumpy either.
Keep your money. Don't give this place the light of day, just let it die a slow death, or wait for someone with cash who actually cares to buy it and fix it up. It's got good bones in terms of the hole layout potential, but the rest of it is a rotting hulk of what I imagine was once a decent golf course.
