The course needs some TLC. A couple of greens were rough, but the course was in decent shape. We actually got out on the course early. The pace of play was reasonable. The staff were pleasant. Overall, it was a positive experience and I would recommend Royal American for a round or two.

Signed up for men’s league this year. Putting greens are so bad you are allowed to move the ball to keep from putting through the surface of the moon. Bunkers are free drop - overgrown. And rough hasn’t been mowed - full of dandelions- so thick and uneven. Horrible. This course used to be so nice too. Pics show the practice putting green and the weeds in the rough and how long it is. *** UPDATE *** After discussions with Scott and team…. I am pleased that they are actively working to correct the issues at the course. I’ll check back in and see how things progress as I really love this course. I have lived in the area for 26 years and I think I was just so disappointed to see this. Thank you Scott for taking the time to discuss this and to be so understanding.

I had high hopes for the course in 2025 after reading the countless responses from the course owner on other poor reviews saying they were working over the winter to fix the course and have apparently installed a new irrigation system? Doesn't look like it. I know it's still fairly early in the season, but I've played a few other courses in the past week and they aren't anywhere near the horrible condition of this place. The driving range is closed and looks overgrown. The practice green....wait, there isn't one, it's also overgrown and hasn't been mowed even. The greens on the course remain dead and full of weeds and BUMPY, slow and inconsistent, it's barely playable. There are ZERO playable bunkers, every single one is hard packed mud and or full of water. All this for the low low price of $45! 🤦

Played Royal last Friday and this Wednesday. The course has made a dramatic difference than what it was back in April. The crew is hard at work bringing it back. It's the best it has been in a few years. There are about 3 greens that still have some more work to be done and the bunkers desperately need sand. But overall it is looking good, fairways and tee boxes look very nice as well as the majority of greens. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Zach, Lisa, Kevin, Pete, Greg and Charlie all make you feel they truly care about course and want their customers to feel good about playing Royal. Keep up the good work.

Royal has always been one of my favorite public courses. Last year was a tough year and part of me said I would never go back. I'm glad I did! I played last Thursday August 7th 2025 and the course looks amazing. This this is a tough time of year for many courses and I've seen the best of them with rough fairways. The greens at Royal are 100% better than last year. If you've had a bad experience at Royal I encourage you to give them another chance. Still one of my favorites! I would give them 4.5 if that was an option. There is still work to be done but the all around progress is outstanding!
