Sprain is a nice local (public) course that's very conveniently located in Yonkers NY. The fairways and greens were in really good shape, especially considering how hot and dry it has been. Wooded and scenic with a moderate challenging course. Not a lot of bunkers and a few water traps. Great for all levels of play. I base my reviews on convenience of location and price. Update-May2023 The course is in beautiful shape, scenic and enjoyable to play.

I attended an event here on 4/5 with some friends. Two stars because the comedians were good and the buffet dinner was fine. There was a pitcher of tap water on the table that we went through quickly since dry heat was booming down on us. When I walked over to the bar to ask for another pitcher of water, the young blond girl behind the bar was very unfriendly and told me curtly that the water pitchers were $5. I stood there with my small empty plastic cup in hand and said it was just tap water. She was clearly annoyed, grabbed my cup, added about 4 ounces of water from the bar and handed it back to me without a word but with an angry expression on her face. I honesty have never experienced anything like this. We paid almost $60 for the tickets and spent money on alcoholic beverages. Who charges for tap water? Penny wise - pound foolish. I would not go back.

During my round at Sprain Lake Golf Course, I managed to deliver a commendable performance, carding a solid 104. Despite the challenges posed by the course, I found myself executing several exceptional shots, including a couple of memorable pars that highlighted my skill and precision on the fairways and greens. These moments of success served as a testament to both the quality of the course and my own capabilities, further enhancing the overall enjoyment of my experience at Sprain Lake. Golf is a game of ethics and integrity. It may be the only sport where you can call a penalty on yourself. My son and I played Sprain Lake Golf Course on April 17th. The course was beautiful! The food was wonderful. The driving range was interesting on the positive side. I paid $70. (Full price) I am a senior and what I paid was not consistent with the web site. We teed off and I hit the first green in regulation only to realize that the greens had been, very recently aerated. They were not playable at all. We played 9 holes and left. You would think that management would disclose this condition when we paid. Most ethical course managers with some sense of integrity would let you know or offer an aeration special price. But (no) no integrity or ethic here. A beautiful course with a wonderful staff doesn’t deserve such low level management. I enjoy writing positive reviews! No joy this time!!!! Joe Rothenberg
