This course doesn't offer online bookings. Call Pro Shop

The lady that runs the pro shop needs to be replaced. No professionalism at all. The golf course is OK but the management could definitely use some improvement. Her phone etiquette leaves much to be desired. After reading reviews, I’m not the first one who feels this way. Maybe she owns the place. Even if that is the case,it is no way to run a public business.

As a pro golfer, this place has exceeded my expectations. The layout and design are great. Course is in very good shape especially the greens and good length from the back tees. Beautiful property, can’t wait to play again.

Old golf course with an incredible layout. If you really break a 100 here you had a good day. It is challenging and you have to make shots. When you get a few pars or Birdies here, you earned them. Great price $45 w/cart and charming old taproom where you can get a decent lunch at reasonable price.

I may not have said this the first time I visited as I shot one of the worst scores I have in a long time (95), very challenging, but mostly by length, it is over 7000 yards from the tips, and by elevation. You have to play smart because if you break out a driver all the time you may end up with some pretty rough lies to get back up to the greens. The greens could use a little work, but it had been quite dry the few days before going the second time, I did do a bit better as I played smarter this time (83). Definitely a course with checking out. The clubhouse is also in excellent shape with very friendly staff, worth a casual round 9 in the morning, drinks then back out for the back.

I’ve always enjoyed trying to play at least one round at Westport each season, but yesterday I had a terrible experience due to one extremely rude manager, whom I’ve learned is named Robin. A friend and I showed up around 3:00 to play 18 holes. On hole 2 it was clear that a storm was starting to roll in, and towards the end of the hole there was some distant lightning and it started to rain, so we drove over to a wooded area and took some shelter. We checked the radar on our phones and could see we were just catching the southern tip of the storm system and that it would be brief. There was a little more lightning, but none of it was particularly close. The storm passed after about 10 minutes and we continued playing as it drizzled on us periodically. It wasn’t even a hard enough rain to justify putting on our rain jackets. As we were about to tee off on hole 9, a woman on a golf cart came roaring up to us and started immediately yelling at us that we needed to get off the golf course because of the lightning. It was 5:30. I told her that there had not been any lightning in at least an hour and a half. She snapped at me and said, "There was lightning at 4:00 and you were out here!" I explained how we had handled it, so then she barked at us that we needed to leave the course because of standing water on the greens. There was no standing water on any of the greens we had played. I asked if we would be reimbursed at all, and she said no, since we had paid the afternoon rate which is the same as the 9 hole rate. Frustrated with her attitude, I pointed out that we hadn’t finished 9 holes, and she angrily told me we could finish hole 9 "if you really need to save a nickel." Sour about the way Robin treated us, I decided to try and have a chat with her once I got back to the pro shop. I thought I approached her very respectfully and gave her every opportunity to try and correct the situation. I explained that I’ve been golfing all my life, and I can sympathize with the stresses of running a course around here. I also own a local bar, so I told her that I understand dealing with the buffoonery that I know happens on golf courses. But you still need to give people the benefit of the doubt and treat them with decency. She could have respectfully told us that she would have appreciated us coming back to the pro shop during the lightning, or explained nicely that she was worried about damaging the greens, and there would have been a very different result. Perhaps I got a discounted afternoon rate, but I was paying to play 18, not 9. A nine hole voucher would have been appreciated, or even just a drink at the bar. But even as I tried to make peace and offer my perspective, Robin met everything I said with defensiveness and hostility. I’ve been golfing for about 30 years and I’ve never been kicked off a course because of a light rainstorm. Utterly ridiculous. During the beginning of this round my friend and I were talking about possibly buying memberships next season. Westport is one of the nicest courses in our area. But that is out of the question until it is under different management. This is a hospitality business. If you can’t be hospitable, then you need to find a different business.
