Description

A Donald Ross classic refined by later restoration, Pine Needles is one of the Sandhills' purest strategic tests. The routing glides over natural contours with open fronts and tightly mown surrounds that reward imagination. From the Medal tees the course tallies just over 7,000 yards, but variety in wind and angles keeps it engaging from every set. Host to multiple U.S. Women's Opens, it's renowned for firm, fast conditions and beautifully presented greens. A 20-acre practice facility, short-course loop and expansive range make it a destination for both play and instruction.

Pine Needles was hands down one of the best golf experiences I’ve had all 2025. Easily one of my favorite courses I’ve ever played. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was incredible. The starter was absolutely amazing, very welcoming, knowledgeable, and set the tone for a perfect day on the course. The pro shop team was equally outstanding . Super helpful, friendly, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was taken care of. I want to specifically call out Ryan Duckworth, Senior Assistant Golf Professional. His customer service was truly top notch. He went above and beyond to help resolve an issue with a purchase I made, stayed proactive throughout the process, and made everything right quickly and professionally. His attention to detail and willingness to help left a lasting impression. The course itself is phenomenal, classic, challenging, and immaculately maintained. Pine Needles is the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again. I’m already planning my return and can’t wait to also get rounds in at Mid Pines and Southern Pines. Five stars across the board. Pine Needles sets the standard for what a world-class golf experience should be.

Is it pricey? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes! Unbelievable Donald Ross design, a whimsical challenge that evokes nostalgia, your first time playing it. Stunning views, friendly staff, and no issues with pace of play. 10/10 can’t wait to return.

Stayed in the Ross Lodge in Aug 2025 for a long weekend of golfing with the fellas. If your group is looking for an affordable and we'll done golf outing, this is your destination. Many different sized cabins are available. The Ross Lodge has a walkout patio that no joke has it's own private driving range! I attached a picture to see. Pine needles golf course is a Donald Ross design which blends into the sandhills topography beautifully. Caution note: These Ross courses all around Southern Pines and Pinehurst are extremely challenging. Consider yourself warned. The lodges have very modest furnishings. A little heavy on the wood paneling for my taste. The cabin kitchen Facilities really don't allow you to cook. The package for our group was 3 days of excellent golfing, 3 nights stay at Pine Needles for roughly $1200 US, so approximately $400/day per person which included greens fees. About half of our meals were included in that price point. Abundant free parking. Very classy

Recently went here for an annual golf trip and this course has always been a favorite of ours. We love their putting greens and driving range, but need to try their four hole loop the next time we're in town. Staff has always treated well, as well. Definitely a challenging course, but that's part of the fun! Thank you Pine Needles!

Its like stepping back in time. I loved it. Club house and bar was great. Golf course was in good shape. The greens were in great shape but the fairways were a little rough. Overall we had a great time playing it.
