Description

RGA is Raleigh's oldest public golf venue, a walker-friendly layout with minimal green-to-tee distances. The public 18 blends classic lines with a 1998 update that restored strategy to several holes. It's not overwhelmingly long, but small, tilted greens and a few elevation changes protect par. Doglegs reward shaping the tee shot, while several par 3s require committed club selection. Locals prize it for steady conditions and value, and the extra nine offers variety for repeat play.

This was my first time playing RGA and I had a great time. They’re clearly making improvements to the courses and doing a good job. We did not play the stakeholders course, we stuck to the ‘older’ course. Tees get 3.5 stars, fairways get 4 stars, greens get 3 stars. 4 stars for the service and amenities. Staff were super friendly and helpful, food and drinks in the clubhouse were great, and upgraded carts are always a win!

It's a crowded and short course on good weather, but it played pretty well. Greens are pretty rough, unfortunately. The crowded part meant it took nearly 5 hours for 18 fairly short holes which was unfortunate. The service in the shop is great and friendly, and I can't knock the experience just for coming on an unusually busy day. It was mainly just the greens that needed work.

I’m not sure I’d play here again if it was $10. The prices they charge for how horrendous the golf course is… robbery. If you choose to play here, it should be because every other place is booked up or because you’re just starting to golf. The only reason they can get away with charging what they do is the location. The greens are made up of about 10 different types of grass (per green) and roll at about a 5. Your round will take 5 hours if you’re lucky. Absolutely worst bang for your buck you can get in the Raleigh area if you’re a decent golfer. This is a good place for beginners to learn and that’s about it. There isn’t a close 2nd in Raleigh for bad courses. If you’re looking for a low level course, go play Hedingham instead which is much better for a similar price (or even cheaper).

It is a pretty alright course with the holes being really close to eachother so if you hook or slice the ball you are playing from a fairway on another hole. They have no driving range either which is fine. They do however have a chipping and putting green. I would recommend going here if you are not trying not to spend to much on a round. You get what you pay for at RGA

This is for the public course side. Not a bad course. Lots of elevation changes, some blind fairways and such. Greens are horribly slow, or fast. No one fixes their ball marks on the greens nor fill in divots. Tee boxes aren’t all that great but doable. Cart paths are pretty rough in most parts. Lots of bare ground throughout the course. I enjoyed it even though I wasn’t playing my best and this was my first time there. Golf carts were fairly clean and have the geofencing which keeps folks from certain areas.
