2.5/5
Long story short: For our wedding we received a great price for the venue and food, and the kitchen and serving staff did a phenomenal job (our guests loved the meal, and they were very accommodating to our custom food requests). However, our guests were cold, our wedding party ended up doing most of the setup and cleanup despite being told the venue would handle it, and there was a lot of miscommunication throughout the day. We felt like we weren’t being listened to and it brought stress.
The venue itself is beautiful. We held our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at Glen Oak Golf Course. The ceremony setup, cocktail hour room with a bridal suite, and reception layout under the semi-permanent tent structure all matched what we discussed and expected.
Coordinator switch:
Our original coordinator, Amber, started our planning process but later handed things off to Tori (who we had met once for a brief meeting) DAY OF due to her pregnancy. While understandable, it felt like details we had discussed didn’t always carry over, which led to confusion later on.
Payment issue:
On the day of the wedding, their card machines suddenly didn’t work. We had planned to pay by card and moved money around accordingly, but I ended up having to forward-date a check, which was stressful and inconvenient.
Decorating miscommunication:
For our 2pm ceremony, a family friend arrived around 10am to do some simple decorating. We were told and under the impression the venue would handle most of the setup. By noon, very little had been done, and our friends had to rush to finish. This could have been a real problem and felt like another miscommunication.
Golf course photos:
We were originally told we could take photos on the course. The day before or day of, we were told it had to be immediately after the ceremony. After family photos, we were suddenly told we couldn’t go out at all. Later, Erik said it was fine and we were able to go. It worked out, but it was frustrating and confusing and messed up our day of timeline.
Heaters:
Our late-May wedding ended up being 47 degrees. During booking, we were told they had heaters that would funnel warm air into the reception area. When we asked for heat, staff hesitated, saying they didn’t want the food to “smell like gas.” After multiple requests and delays, they VERY RELUCTANTLY brought out patio-style tower heaters instead, nothing like what was originally described and Erik gave me a rude look like I was putting him out when I insisted they put heaters out because it was freezing. They only had enough propane for three of the four heaters, and guests were cold for much of the night, some even expressing they had to leave early because they were too cold.
Final remarks:
Erik was hard to find and often inattentive, talking on the porch with some guy upstairs when he should have been handling the heater situation. While we truly appreciated the pricing and the excellent food service, the repeated miscommunication, lack of staff help with setup and cleanup, and the heating situation took away from our experience. I hope the venue can improve these issues going forward because the course itself is beautiful.
