Used to play here all the time while it was still run by the town. Once the town sold it and the new management came in, we haven't been back since because we used to play 18 with just paying the greens fees for the day, sometimes even 27. Unless its changed, you can only play 9 with the new management. Other than that, its a lovely course. Not too easy but not difficult either. And dont worry about the industrial buildings and cars driving by as you play. Once you start, you almost forget its there.

It wan an honor and pleasure to host our golf fundraiser at the Shady Rest Country Club and Scotch Hills Golf Course. We got rained out originally. Everyone was working together to reorganize and carry forth. There were reports of agitation coming from the rental office which is managed by Kemper Sports and is separate from the club house. Shady Rest is the first African American owned course in the U.S. It is now owned and operated by Scotch Plains recreation department. Renting can be challenging but you have to keep calling and the point person who is very friendly and accommodating will guide you through. I’m new to golf but we had fun. The other golfers were patient and giggled with us. This venue is great for small crowds under 100 and who want a historical experience as well.

The National Forum for Black Public Administrators New Jersey Chapter (NFBPA-NJ) held their first annual golf outing at Shady Rest Golf and Country Club. The staff at the clubhouse is very friendly and accommodating. This is a nine hole golf course and there are no cart paths. It was a lovely day. Thanks for making our event a success.

Always a great time. I have been to several events here. I love the history they have posted throughout the building. It has off street parking and the event space is large enough to hold a nice size event.

I've only golfed here once or twice and I thought it was really nice. Mini golf is always fun too. Staff was friendly, course itself was decent. Also, the Scotch Plains fireworks are held here for the 4th of July, and its totally worth stopping by. Great atmosphere with music, beach balls, and a packed lawn.
