Description

Hopewell Valley is a classic Central Jersey private club that blends a relaxed, community feel with a course that rewards steady, disciplined shot-making. The layout tends to emphasize positioning and approach precision rather than sheer length, which makes it a great test for players who value course management. Many holes reward conservative lines off the tee and smart targets into greens, because trouble is often placed where typical misses land. The setting feels established and traditional, with a routing designed for repeat play and learning over time. It’s the kind of course where your score reflects your decisions—play patiently and you’ll have chances, get greedy and you’ll pay. If you like understated private golf with strong fundamentals baked into the design, Hopewell Valley fits well.

One of the better courses in Mercer County and great for the amateur golfer such as myself. It's extremely forgiving with minimal trees but is still challenging. I also love that they have more par fives than most. The only reason I did not give them a five-star is the bar/restaurant could use some updating. The staff is very friendly and I would highly recommend it.

I actually wanted to give this two stars but course layout and greens were really good. Staff were also very good. Pro shop guy made us coffee, no problem, he recommended we get out early to beat an outing. The fairways and tee boxes were in bad shape. There were other signs of disrepair like a bridge being out for probably a couple of years as they had several signs custom made for the detours. I'm afraid this course might be houses in a few years.

Great course, but the starter is way to big of a stickler for getting the carts back right on time. He's aggressive We had 5 minutes and he wouldn't let anyone returning the carts drop their bags off at their car before dropping it off. Beware - if you get a cart, he's gonna be on your ass and making the day less enjoyable.

There are many pluses to most of the county courses but over the last couple of years I've seen some very disappointing changes in the courses. The first one is the removal of water stations throughout the courses. I've complained to the Mercer county Parks commissioner personally and he told me it was too much trouble too wash the coolers. When temperatures rise into the '90s and you're trying to walk the course I feel that is a liability putting golfers at health risk. Please note that many times there are no cart girls selling any drinks and on many courses it's not practical to run back in the clubhouse to refill a water bottle particularly Mercer county East and Hopewell valley. Second is the deplorable condition of the golf tees. I played Hopewell and Princeton this weekend and both t-boxes were terrible! Hopewell was nothing but dirt and Princeton was nothing but a crabgrass patch. I will say that the fairways and greens were in very good condition. The third item I noticed is the poor maintenance or no maintenance of the general grounds. The ninth hole snack area has a patio that is choked with weeds a foot high. On Saturday the snack bar closed at 1:00 in the afternoon? I've always enjoyed Mercer county golf course's and the value they represent however the recent management has really left a lot to be desired. It seems as though management doesn't golf or doesn't care about golfers or their safety.

The course is well maintained. The starter and ranger were both polite; they did a great job of keeping everyone moving to keep to the schedule. Grounds are beautifully kept and the flowers are a nice touch. The restaurant was clean. Go see Hanna (who was lovely) or any of the bartenders for a bucket o’ balls and a cold drink. Their version of tater tots, not only a great laugh but delicious.
