Description

A neighborhood nine with surprising bite, The Links at Starkville plays to a full par 36 with a couple of long par 4s and a reachable par 5. Lyndy Lindsey's design uses water and trees to create angles without overcomplicating the walk. It's beginner friendly but offers enough yardage from the back tees to keep better players honest. A proper practice setup range, putting, and chipping areas lets you get reps in any time. It's a convenient quick round option minutes from Mississippi State.

My son lives here and I have never seen an apartment complex that has worse management in my LIFE. When they moved in, there were roaches everywhere. Inside the cabinets, the dishwasher, everywhere. There is black mold all over the window sills and the carpet is disgusting. And when they got their first water bill, it was ridiculously high, so I called the office and for some reason, they have no meter on that apartment (????). So currently, they have no meter that can tell how much water they use, and they have a bill of about $1100 for water and are just charging them what they want when everyone else pays through a utility company. They claim they’re trying to get it fixed but that’s been since July when they moved in. First thing tomorrow, I’m calling the health department about the mold. They also had his car towed because he parked somewhere that had no visible sign. Had he known that, it would’ve saved him $250. There are regulations that state there has to be a ‘No Parking’ sign that’s visible and off the ground so people can clearly see it. There isn’t one. And after reading all the other reviews, I’m making it my number one goal in life to have this place either fix things for their tenants or even condemned. It’s that bad.

So do with this information as you will… I applied to this place back in September so I could have my own place to live while I helped my mother through her lung transplant process, informed them that I wanted to have something set up but wasn’t sure when I would move in due to my moms illness, so they told me if I went ahead and paid a security deposit it would lock in the rent price but would hold my application on the waitlist. I did that and then months later, my mom dies and it made things a lot more complicated for me. I went back up to the office several times and asked several questions regarding my application and if they had an apartment available (it was now November and they didn’t have a vacant home but were “prospecting” for a January move in) I wasn’t notified that there was an apartment set to be assigned to me for Jan 2026 until I asked about it. I wasn’t notified of any changes or updates with my application actually. After trying to navigate my moms death and how to proceed with her home I then asked if it was possible to not move in, as I was unsure about what my future would look like and was then told that I can cancel my application and given the circumstances I could likely receive a refund on my deposit. Was told to wait for a call from the manager who then did not call me for 2 weeks and instead I spent 2 weeks trying to meet her in between work and finally just asked for them to have her call me directly. She had been telling other ppl to call me but none of the consultants could explain to me why my deposit wasn’t refundable they all kept saying “we held an apartment for you so not leasing means we took loss” but when I asked how if I was placed on a waitlist with no assigned apartment and everybody kept coming up speechless so at this point I just needed clarification. After speaking with the manager she tells me my deposit wasn’t refunded bcz cancelling my application means they lost out on a potential rental to someone else, when I asked her how that was possible when I was never assigned an apartment from the beginning she then mentioned the 1/2026 apartment availability that they were prospecting (their words not mine), to which I asked how the deposit was needed for that when the lease document hasn’t been created nor was that finalized the time I was asking if something would be available and finally she said when I applied I agreed to a potentially non-refundable deposit. Which is correct that was in the application that I signed and agreed upon, had someone had just said that from start I would’ve accepted my loss but constantly telling me they held an apartment when they didn’t did not make sense to me. After reviewing the application, it does also state that the deposit is not a “security” deposit but an application deposit and only is a security deposit once a lease document is created, so if you pay the deposit, you’re essentially paying another non-refundable application fee so they’re charging a $350 application fee that gets credited towards your security deposit once your lease is completed and if you cancel your application, your deposit is automatically forfeited. I did not notice this when I originally applied and really wish I did but glad I didn’t pay the full $725 just for them to keep it. It honestly should be illegal but oh well… I’ll just put it in Gods hands.

I would definitely not recommend the links for anyone who wants a clean apartment to live in and a easy landlord to get in contact with. I had a 2 bed/ 2 bath apartment that me and my fiancee have been planning on living in and had it approved and applied for in March of 2025. They would not give us the lease until days before we moved in and wanted us to sign the lease and pay for the apartment before we even saw it. I had to call them 6 times for them to finally send the lease for me to sign 4 days before we moved in. We decided to go look at our unit early Sunday when we were scheduled to move in that Monday in January 2026 and were shocked at what we saw. The management had previously told us since we applied so early that we would get a choice in where we got our apartment and told us that we could receive a second story apartment over looking the golf course no problem but when we showed up on Sunday it was a first floor parking lot facing apartment and we were okay with that but when we walked in it was dirty, smelly and unappealing to even think of living there. It was extremely unmanaged and it was astonishing that they expected us to move into the apartment next day. The carpet looked like it was older than me and it smelt like cigarettes. If your looking for a complex that does not listen, answer, upkeep their properties, and try to get you to pay rent before you move in I would recommend it but in any other circumstance I would choose a lot of other places to live over the links in Starkville and the fact that they waited until last minute to show us our unit and sign a lease has left us in a hard position to find another place to live before we start work and school in the same week.

Lived here almost 2 years and it was a fairly good experience. Could have been kept MUCH cleaner, but for apartments on the outskirts of a small town like Starkville - it was decent. I love nature, so the wide open space of living right in front of the golf course made it better. Don't expect to get any deposit back though.

Overpriced and unclean when I moved in. They tried to force me to move out a week before my lease ended. They tried harassed me over the phone multiple times during the holidays outright lying to me about my contract. They also have tons of hidden fees that you aren’t told until after you put down a deposit.
