Description

St. James is a modern parkland course routed over gently rolling countryside east of town. The black tees approach 6,800+ yards and carry a strong rating/slope, but the white and red tees make it approachable for most players. Several par-4s reward a shaped tee shot to set up angles into well-protected greens. Water and native areas appear selectively, adding interest without overwhelming higher handicaps. It's a well-conditioned community course that hosts tournaments while remaining welcoming to daily-fee golfers.

We really like their new building and atmosphere. Which I believe will only get better as they finish building out all of their ideas. We've been here for multiple Sunday brunches, including their Easter Brunch. It was really busy and they kept everything clean stocked well. We've also enjoyed their prime rib special that they have on Saturday evenings. My picture is half of their king cut, which my wife enjoyed the other half. I also added the lobster tail, which was fantastic! We'll definitely be back and bring different friends and family back.

Ok the 3-stars is for the golf course, but the bar/grill gets 5-stars due to a new building and cool interior, as it is my understanding that the old clubhouse burnt down and the new place is a hit among the locals. The golf course needs some TLC. I remember the glory days when it first went to 18 holes and it was an exciting new track. Over the years and multiple owners, it appears that some of the tee boxes have been abandon, bunkers removed, and overall maintenance has been reduced. The day I played, the fairways and tees had not been mowed for quite a while and many had been taken over by crabgrass and clover. The greens were really good, but a few were still trying to fill in from winter kill. I am cheering hard for the success of this golf course, but would love to see the fairway, tees, and bunker conditions improve. It was noted that the driving range had survey stakes throughout and that apparently the owner is thinking about converting into a RV park.

We had heard a lot of positive reviews from locals so we decided to give Rivers Edge Grill a chance. Let me start by saying there was a private meeting in the private room with about 35 people in there so staff seemed to be way more focused on them. Upon entering, you find your way to any open table or the bar. Don't forget to grab a menu! The room is spacious with a mix of tables, booths and bar stools. We waited for awhile and eventually not just one, but two servers came over to help at various times. The salad bar, although small, wasn't open until someone ordered, but was the highlight once ordered. The tomatoes and pineapple were fresh and flavorful. The walleye was mostly breading and not up to par with many restaurants. The flavor was light, which can be a trait of walleye, but the meat was mushy and not the usual firm consistency. The beef commercial was average. A small scoop of potatoes, great flavored gravy, thick slices of bread and meat that just was a little off rounded out the meal. We eventually had to request the bill and then take it to the register as no one came to claim. All in all, very mundane offering. Doubtful a return trip will occur.

Atmosphere is warm and relaxing. My servers were awesome. My food was done to perfection! I am making this my go to place! If you haven't been here you should stop in and see for yourself.

Saw a lot of advertising on social media so I went for Sunday Brunch buffet. Cons: Food was cool to cold on the buffet. Scrambled eggs, hash browns and french toast were undercooked. Probably would have been fine if heaters were used on buffet. We did comment to Server and buffet was checked by staff, and temperature was ignored. Pros: nice location and plenty of room. Server was prompt and courteous. Biscuits and gravy were warm. In general, a local favorite with potential. Not worth planning a trip too if from out of town.
