Description

Carved through a reclaimed mine site, the Quarry delivers dramatic visuals, elevation swings and a bold strategic test. Wide fairways encourage aggressive lines while waste areas and fescue punish misses. Greens are large with tiers and movement that influence approach strategy. Together with the Legend it anchors a renowned northern Minnesota golf escape. Practice facilities and the Wacootah Grille overlook the action.

Of the three big name courses in the area (+ the Legend at Giants Ridge and the Wilderness at Fortune Bay), I thought that this one was the best. All three were in great condition, but the Quarry was on the most interesting land. Highlights were the par 5 2nd, where you can lay up safely out to the left or go for the green over part of the old quarry, the par 5th with a large waste bunker down the left side, the drivable par 4 13th, and the long par 4 18th, where you either have to cut the corner of the dogleg left off the tee or carry your approach over a wooden fence that guards a 100 foot drop off down into a lake. I like to walk when I play and although no one seems to do it, the Quarry is very walkable and enjoyable to walk, with only one long walk between the 16th green and 17th tee. It's a bit pricey at $140 but all decent courses are expensive these days and at least here you're getting something legitimately good. I feel that it deserves its ranking on several of the top 100 public course lists. Also, the breakfast in the clubhouse was very good!

Very highly rated golf course in Northern Minnesota. Not cheap to play. My green fee was over $140. Green fee includes driving range and a chipping area as well as the standard putting green. Get there early to get your moneys worth. The course is absolutely beautiful. And the staff they are very friendly. You’re treated like it’s a private club even though it’s a public course. hole 15 is really challenging. It’s a par four where you have to make a shorter shot probably hitting an iron and you’re still 200 yards out from the green.

From arriving to the club house it felt nice and relaxed. Give yourself a full hour to enjoy the experience, great carts with ball washers, and tees on them. Free driving range included. Fairways are carpet, rough is great, and greens are memorable. Coming back and would recommend. June 7th, 2025

Growing up and always hearing about this course being a gem up north MN. I played it for the first time in June of 22', and course was in phenomenal condition. Not too much elevation besides a few holes off the tee and minimal blind tee shots, which really makes the course enjoyable for the first time. The ONLY downside is the carts have no GPS installed. Yardage books were provided. A day or weekend trip from the Twin cities was with no regret after experiencing this masterpiece of land within the iron range.

Pure artistic, architectural genius, leaving nature seemingly uninterrupted! This course is a perfect example of how some great architects can make courses look like they've belonged there the entire time. Cut so perfectly into the landscape, you realize almost immediatly your truly in golf heaven. Very friendly complimentary staff and service. Insane, dramatic elevation changes everywhere you look and all types of places to lose your balls. Immaculate greens and large rolling fairways with large steep white sand bunkers everywhere. This course is a definite bucket list course and an absolute must if you live in the midwest, you will not be disappointed. It has been MN#1 for a long time and I see why in full. Loved every minute of my round and am considering making the trip to Giants Ridge every year.
