Description

The Legend launched destination golf at Giants Ridge with classic Northwoods holes framed by pines and lakes. Jeff Brauer's routing mixes playable corridors with elevation changes and memorable par-3s. Greens present subtle contours that reward smart angles. Paired with the Quarry, it forms one of the Midwest's great 36-hole days. A full-service pro shop and practice grounds sit at the course hub.

I didn't think this course was as good as the Quarry, but I'd still highly recommend it. It isn't as difficult and doesn't have many interesting holes, but it is very pretty. It reminded me a lot of the courses in northern Michigan where the holes are all cut through deep woods and there are several long green-to-tee drives (from 16 to 17 must have been almost a mile). It was also in very good condition. There was one hole that really blew me away: the par 3 17th over the corner of Sabin Lake. I've played a lot of beautiful courses both across the US and abroad and this is on the short list of prettiest holes that I've played. Like The Quarry, they also had good food here. The taco wrap was great!

Played this past weekend. Course in great shape. Staff was very professional and courteous. They came and found us on the range to move up our tee time since there was a no show.

Hands down the most scenic wilderness course I’ve seen. Nothing really compares to this course layout. The only downside was playing behind the grounds crew, leaving brown grass on the fairways for the 2nd nine holes. Definitely worth the drive no matter where you live.

Deacon's Lodge is what I have always set the bar for the Minnesota "up north" golf experience. A new bar has been set. Both the Legend and the Quarry are fantastic courses. I did the 37 hole special, which, as fair warning, is a lot of golf in one day, and by the time I got to the back 9 of the Quarry (the second course of the day) I felt it. But both courses are amazing. The Legend is a little more spread out and the entire time I felt like I was the owner of the place just going out for a round. I'm sure it being midweek helped tremendously with that. I felt like each hole topped the previous one for beauty and character. Tall pines lined the course, fun water hazards, everything you look for in the "up north" experience. The Quarry has a more compact layout, but it reminded me of playing desert golf in Arizona with a much more target oriented style. If you missed the green grass you were in Minnesota's equivalent of desert scrub... former quarry grounds. Fantastic courses you should hit up. The bonus of staying at the Lodge is it puts you about 100 feet from the Pro Shop of the Legend course!

My friends and I were able to experience this wonderful course last summer and have talked about going back every month since. Truly scenic, challenging if you want it to be and a course you need to play. We were the first to tee off in the morning and were met with the most wonderful welcome by the ranger and were given souvenirs for our first time there. Each hole is its own spectacle. There was never a sense of the developers 'running out of room' in the slightest. Massive, tree-lined fairways and pure fairways/rough were just icing on the cake to the visually striking course. I see some one-star, two-star reviews and while I respect others' opinions, I'm just not sure why a few spots on the course that were impacted by weather conditions over the winter bothered people enough to respond so negatively. That being said, temp greens, etc, would be a bit frustrating for the cost, so I do understand some of the points. Being from northern Minnesota, I guess I've learned to expect imperfections from the brutal winters. We'll see Giant's Ridge in early June, and I can't wait to relive the experience with our cameras and GoPros to share with others. See ya soon!
