Description

The Heather is one of Michigan’s most storied championship courses. The layout features tree-lined fairways, demanding approaches, and classic hole designs. Accuracy off the tee is critical throughout the round. Greens are challenging and reward precise iron play. The Heather delivers a traditional, high-level golf test.

We were on a big group trip of over 20 guys and this was the 1st course we played! Played 9 holes on the evening and again the next morning. It was a great layout and very fun course. Watch out for the geese! Highly recommend! 18 is a amazing finishing hole!

Awesome, difficult, lush golf course! Greens are rolling quick and undulating, so be prepared to three putt! I'd definitely recommend playing this course.

HORRIBLE, save your money! We booked 4 months early for a group of 8 guys and still paid $183 per guy. I am not joking when I say this course should feel bad charging even $65-70 in these conditions. At least 1/3 of the greens were completely diseased, dead, and in the worst shape I've ever seen, even if it was a local municipal. Well over half the tee boxes were absolutely nuked with divots forcing you to stand in them. The bunkers were filled with crab grass. The pro shop was musty and not friendly. The bathrooms looked like a crack house. My buddies and I could not believe what we were looking at. The pro shop made zero apologies or even mention of this when we gave them nearly $1600 as a group for our second of 3 Boyne courses we played this weekend. We were so fed up with it that our group immediately left after the round and agreed we’d never be back. Donald Ross was amazing, $50 cheaper, and Arthur Hills was PHENOMENAL and $30 cheaper. The Heather was truly, TRULY embarrassing and you should publicly apologize for charging peak rates and delivering a product that appears as though you'd rather just let nature reclaim the land. Just awful.

OMG we were worried after reading the reviews! We absolutely loved the course. It was in great shape even with the rain that they got the night before. The only green we thought had issues was #2 and that wasn't even that bad. I could personally do with a little less sand traps, but that's RTJ for you! LOL.

Beautiful setting, incredibly poor experience. We brought a group of 20 to The Highlands for a guys’ weekend—$20,000+ spent on lodging and golf over two days, expecting a seamless golf trip. Instead, we were met with disorganization and dismissive staff. We had 36 holes planned for Saturday: Arthur Hills in the morning, Heather in the afternoon. Rain in the morning delayed our round by two hours, and Arthur Hills staff assured us tee times at all courses would be adjusted. When we called Heather mid-round to confirm, they curtly told us they were “back on schedule” and wouldn’t honor the delay—leaving our group with no second round. No flexibility, no attempt to help, just complete indifference. The only option we were given was to replay Arthur Hills at 6 p.m., which we reluctantly did—but couldn’t even finish 36. When we asked about any form of refund or credit, we were told “you had unlimited golf,” as if we could magically play 36 holes between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. with a weather delay and full resort tee sheet. Customer service was cold, inflexible, and uninterested in making things right. Between the bad communication and lack of accountability, it was clear they didn’t care about us once they had our money. Skip this place. Spend your money somewhere like Treetops or Garland, where they actually value your business. Won’t return.
