The course was in great shape. Fairways were lush, greens were fast. You probably could walk it but I would recommend taking a cart. There are a few holes where the green to tee is a long way. It's also a bit hilly. The restaurant is very nice sitting high over the course with nice views. Service was a bit slow, in all fairness it was a shotgun start so we all got finished about the same time.

A fairly new restaurant on-site, only 4-6 weeks in, I believe. Tables on the Green. We were not quite sure where to park when we arrived. While there is a sign on the main road, there isn't one to direct you once you get up there. The lower level is the golf shop, so we walked around up the hill. Luckily, the first door had a small green placard, which said restaurant. We were greeted by the bar atendant within a couple of minutes of entry. It appeared there were 3 waitstaff working the tables. Decent volume and all ages of patrons. Coffee and tea were quick to appear. Both of us received menus. One was missing an insert page, so we just referenced the other to confirm it was a lunch menu that we didn't need. Ultimately, we ordered the breakfast Shepard Pie and the Country Skillet. I did ask for pepperjack cheese rather than american. The waiter was great, attentive, and never idle. The table next to us had a pancake stack, and the cakes were bigger than the dinner plate. There party was choosing to share and still needed a box. It's a great view if you can sit by the windows. The carpet keeps the volume of a full room dampened down. The challenge is keeping the floor clean with all the food crumbs and spills. Overall, you could see the staff giving it their best, especially near the kid tables. Food arrived quickly and looked great. There were two challenges, both with the country skillet. The cheese placed was american, and half the dish was cold, while the other half was piping hot. It was a bit odd. Yes, I could have asked for someone to take it back and warm it up. The server was one who would be more than accommodating, but honestly, it was minor enough to not be worth it to me as my partners food was just right. He really enjoyed the shredded hash, hollandaise, and sausage. We both appreciated the generous portions of fresh bread toast. You could tell it had to be made that day or just the evening before and only hours old. We will return and maybe try lunch. It was a nice spot, and the staff were awesome.

Great 18-hole golf course. Great price for the condition of the course. There are lots of hills that make the game a bit more challenging. Friendly staff in a great location with a really nice range!

Slope needed on scope Idyllic paths between holes Hygrometer weeps Challenging course in excellent condition. Long day walking but worth it. A good 6 miles on foot and the watch showed 22 floors climbed. Perfect excuse for a cocktail and a break at the turn after pushing up hole 9. There are a handful of paths between holes that are very calming after 3 putt bogeys. First but not last go at this course. Don’t play your draw on #2.

So every once in a while you come across a really fun and interesting course. So allow me to introduce to you Cold Spring CC. I was surprised to learn it was built in 2012 because it's not as long as you'd expect from a course that modern. Then I played it. The overall layout has some hills. That wouldn't be enough to discourage walking, but there are also some very long hauls from green to tee, so take that into account. A wed afternoon would be good to walk it, but a weekend with a full tee sheet? It was a surprise because the roads that lead there go through a flat river valley and I assumed the course would also be flat. Wrong. The emphasis on this course isn't your tee shot on par 4+ holes. It's about the approach. Some of the fairways are tight, and some fairways run out at the dog leg. And if that's the case you just don't hit driver. And some fairways are just asking you to smack it. Which I encourage. You'll still have a good chance assuming you're playing the right tees. Go too far back and this whole paragraph doesn't count and you'll be punching out and laying up a lot. No, you need some solid iron play around this course. Blown approach shots will cost you. Coming up short is most likely going to leave you in a crater like bunker or someplace worse. The old adage that "long is wrong" only applies here sometimes. All of the holes with elevated greens had nice backstops so club down and swing away. The par 3's pretty much drive this point home. Each hole is different and you really need to assess where you do not want to be around each green. Getting up and down from one of those deep pits simply isn't going to happen with any regularity. Choose your club wisely. And then you get to the green. A few were large, the rest were not. And they were wicked fast and pretty hard. But it hasn't rained much this year, so you have to kind of expect that. The practice green was pretty close to the roll on the course. Oh, despite the dry weather the greens were in good shape. Not too bad with the ball marks either. The greens were also rife with subtle breaks and inclines. They'll test your green reading for sure. There will be times when it's rolling right at it but veers off at the last second. I had one straight putt all day that came late in the round and I didn't believe it, played a little left break and yeah.... The grain plays into it a little as well making the ball break a lot more than you expect down grain. So pay attention to where the sun is in the sky. You're welcome. The fairways, while not too frightening from the tee will leave you with some interesting lies. Remember the whole approach shot part? Well, you'll be doing it from hanging and uphill and downhill and flying lies. Adjust accordingly. You don't have to be on too much of an up hill lie to effectively be swinging one less club. Then you'll be in a pit bunker and your adventure has only just begun. Sand was firm so open that wedge up wide and thump it hard. Well, how did you think I knew about clubbing up? Because I didn't do it and ended up in bunkers with lips over my head. Not once but twice. Other facilities were pretty good. They have a grass range and pitching area, and aforementioned practice green where you can chip. The range runs downhill so you can't really trust the markers. At least it didn't seem like they were adjusted for elevation since I know my PW does not go 135, not even when I skull it. Don't know about the food, I had to boogie. I can say the staff was friendly and helpful. The carts are a little under powered. And the views from the clubhouse weren't too shabby if that's your thing. There weren't any houses or yards lining the fairway so you get a real sense of solitude. All that for around $70 (10/2025). On a Saturday. With a cart. I recommend this place. For sure.
