Been going since 2008 for a golf retreat. The guys who started this yearly retreat have been going for much longer then that though. Usually we have between 25+35 guys. This year was no different and we start coming to the island mid week with the earliest day of Wednesday and stay till Sunday. Booked well in advance but for some reason with turnover of staff over the years the staff this year seemed to not appreciate our business or prescence this year. ( I should say one staff member in particular) We play a 27 hole scramble tournament on Friday. This year another group that holds a similar golf retreat had there's scheduled on the Saturday. I did a little research in the FINS ( Frye Isalnd News) and that group was listed so the residents and clubhouse staff knew they would be there, no mention of our group even though this trip has been ongoing for 20+ years for some of the guys in our group. I mean if they cared about our business then I wouldn't think knowing we start to arrive on the island Wednesday that it was smart of them to schedule their employee scramble that day mid afternoon. Why not Monday or Tuesday. No biggie but shows their level of caring about our golf retreat from the start. Next issue was brought to our attention as said clubhouse employee was overheard complaining about a dirty golf cart and that she wasnt going to invite us back. Now Bill who's father had a home on FI was many years and who started this annual retreat was shown a pic of said cart. He said it looked staged but whether it was or not just come to us and we'll take care of it but digging deeper this employee then raised what we believe was her true motive. She mentioned our group hardly came into the clubhouse to buy booze from her. We all had brought our own. Very true who doesn't when it's allowed but our guys do spend on booze in clubhouse too. Just not enough to her liking I guess the 30+ guys who spent $109-200 to golf wasn't enough because that money isn't going directly to her. This same employee then mentioned to a different group of guys that a cart had gone missing. She didn't know the guys she was telling this to were from our group. The other lady working with her then said a cart or a key? The complaining employee then said she wasn't sure because she didn't count the carts that we're on site. I mention this because when I got there on Wednesday and paid to golf and a cart she gave me a key and I went to pick a cart and the cart I was going to take already had a key in the ignition. Which I brought back into the clubhouse. I also have to mention we rented a house off the 7th fairway to which there's a golf cart path from fairway to house and two guys staying there did stop at the house on the way by a couple times. They grabbed something to eat, drink, used the bathroom ect. Never stole the cart though so don't accuse someone without proof. Another accusation was brought up that this women found soiled underwear in the parking area. When pressed for details she then mentioned they seemed to be there for a while. At this point we might've been there 2-3 days. So why even bring that up if you have no idea who did it. Since I've been going on this trip starting in 2008 we have rented 3-5 houses each year and most of them if available when we need them the same houses year after year. If we weren't good renters then I'm sure these owners would not rent to us year after year. Lastly to top it all off our group was accused of not fixing divets as well. Now we're playing near the end of golf season but it was us. I love going to Frye each year and look forward to it with great anticipation but our group is strongly considering finding a different venue since our money and business doesn't seem to be appreciated. PS~ I should also mention that Bill tried to talk to the manager about these issues and the employee making these accusations but the manager blew him off and hung up on him. ( Manager was talking to bill on a guy from our groups phone. She said I'm done with this and gave phone back just as bad as hanging up

Great 9 hole course! A good challenging but fun routing. Greens were absolutely pure!

Overpriced, poorly maintained greens and carts, rude staff, inconsistent markers. It's a novelty worth trying once if you're on the island, but I sure won't be returning.

I brought my son here for his 1st time golfing, beautiful course and island. The course marshal however pretty much bullied us off the 1st hole before we could even get two swings in, and followed it up by talking about strip clubs in front of my 10 year old; let me be a bit more clear here, when I say talking about strip clubs, I mean more specifically talking about sexual acts that would make anyone do a double take. I understand that at a golf course with your friends is a place to speak freely, but not when you are well aware that there is a small child present and can clearly hear the conversation. When I had mention to the marshal that we had let a family play through and that there where still 2 children down by the green (out of sight from the tee,) he proceeded to tee off while assuring me that safety was his #1 concern, and regardless he has a set tee time... If that seems like a contradiction, well, it is one. Our stay at Frye's island was fantastic and my entire family had a blast. Sadly, I highly doubt my son will ever play another course due to the actions of one "volunteer" with a badge.
