Very disappointed on how rude the starter was at the first tee at 3:30 on Saturday 8/2/25. Rude isn’t even the word. He rolled his eyes at one point when we were introducing ourselves to the guys ahead of us. He treated the group like they were stupid. He accused us of having a threesome because he thought he saw two sets of clubs in one of the golf carts and then noticed it was just one. He didn’t even apologize. Most courses are good with grouping together twosomes into four to speed the play up. This guy was adamant that you don’t play until your tee time. Just ridiculous. A foursome speeds up play and takes way less time than two twosomes. But that wasn’t even the issue. Him rolling his eyes and having a rude tone was uncalled for. We will never come back here. We will go to Battleground golf club where the staff is friendly!

Course was great, however, our experience was severely tainted by a very rude and unprofessional Marshall Denny. Denny singled out the person of color in our group, and made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable for the entirety of the 18 hole round. We were very disappointed, considering the very high reputation of the course. Unfortunately, moving forward we no longer feel confident in booking tee times here, despite the prestige of the green and beautiful new club house. We will be taking our service to other courses that are welcoming of all people.

Absolute gem. Must play. fairways are some of the best I have ever seen. Greens are generous and fair. The layout is very nice and easy to traverse. You see what you need to see in from of you. The sister course is the beast. If you can beat this one, play the Kampen course.

We played the Ackerman–Allen course on an overcast, windy and cool day in June. The staff are professional, if somewhat aloof to visitors from University of Michigan country, because Purdue dominates the landscape. The pro shop is 4 stars for merchandise but prices are steep. The price of a round of golf is also steep. I grudgingly admit that the course is worth the price. The course is a parkland course, tightly laid out with almost no water and moderate sand. The landing areas are expansive, but tend to narrow the farther you hit the ball. The greens are of moderate speed, contoured and manicured. We played our round in 4 hours 40 minutes in craft path only conditions, which was moderately quick under the circumstances. If you need a sound byte for this course, call it manicured and fun, pricey but worth it. You are likely to use every club in your bag and have a great time doing so. The greens are in such great shape and so thoughtfully laid out that you find yourself anticipating putting. The course might not challenge the lucky few very good golfers, but the rest of are sure to enjoy.

A wonderful Pete Dye design. Not extremely long but a great second shot golf course. The green complexes are not as tricky as many other Dye courses but still test your short game skills. The new Club House construction underway makes things a little congested and cumbersome but it is well worth the nuisance.
