Description

RedTail Golf Course blends woodland corridors with elevated tees and water hazards, creating strong variety throughout the round. The routing rewards accuracy off the tee due to narrow landing zones. Greens are smooth and feature subtle slopes that require careful reads. Scenic natural surroundings enhance the overall atmosphere. It's a well-regarded, visually appealing northern Illinois course.

my amputee golf association hosted our annual golf tournament and fundraising scramble at RedTail this year on September 5th-7th and I wanted to share my thoughts on the course. The association I run is a 501c not for profit and last year I started looking for a new home course for our tournament and golf outing. The General Manager and I exchanged several emails and phone conversations and came to the agreement to host this years events. I can tell you I was very happy with how things all came together. Kenny and his staff were more than welcoming to all of the adaptive players and family members that came to the course to play last weekend. The Marshalls, bar staff, cart girls and even the porters all made us feel like we were members for the weekend. The grounds crew that were there, helped set up the course as best they could for an adaptive tournament (they have limited staff once school starts back up, and that was apparent). The sand traps are in need of a good raking and could use more sand, and the cart paths need to be paved or repaved but overall the course was in great shape for a late summer early fall event like ours. The food prepared by the F&B staff at Redtail was very good as well, despite some players feeling they needed a torment meal, we aren't that kind of organization and nor is this course set up for that kind of meal service. Our Saturday dinner of steak and chicken breast was outstanding! RedTail is a great course, is it perfect no, it has some cosmetic things the couse needs to address and they know that, and Kenny and his staff are doing a great job in getting it to be the best it can be. And MWAGA will be back there next year and the foreseeable future.

This was a beautiful layout with quite a bit of potential from a distance. Unfortunately it’s only from a distance because upon further inspection, the fairways are in pretty good shape but they had little pebbles around all the bunkers in the fairways that easily would scratch your equipment. Even more disappointing would be the fact that I played this course 3 days in a row and the first two days we they didn’t change the pin. I understand that during the fall season (literally one week in) it’s hard to keep maintenance workers. But using the fact that you only have two people on the maintenance crew and the leader of the crew of 2 doesn’t speak English. I couldn’t believe it, cups that were supposed to be perfectly round were actually circles on some areas with plenty of flat spots on the side, making it look like an oval. Overall, I was surprised by the nice layout but the cart paths are pretty much non existent and rocks littered the whole path. In addition, the bunkers are the worst I have played in the entire state. It’s just that simple. Rocks in them the size of golf balls. If you want a dent in your wedge this is definitely the place to go. Seriously, they are awful and indeed do have rocks. It hasn’t rained in almost a week and the bunkers still had water in them. Crazy. In conclusion, save your cash unless it’s being used for a charity event, then hopefully your scramble team never hits out of the bunkers. Shame on you and your course for being in such rough shape around the greens with the bunkers and the diseased greens. It’s too bad because it’s a nice facility. The golf shop was full of Wilson gear, that says it all. Pure crap!

Really fun track and is kept in great condition considering the lack of rain we have had. Pace of play was great at about 4hrs for 18 holes. Only drawback is the lack of club house as they have a temporary one setup while the new one will be built.

Course is in excellent shape, the staff is attentive and accommodating, and the bourbon selection is amazing for a post round beverage on the patio.
