Description

Lake View is Callaway Gardens' original course, a scenic par 70 that meanders around lakes and gardens. Designed by J. B. McGovern with Dick Wilson oversight, it opened in the 1950s and emphasizes placement over power. Water is in play on many holes, with gentle doglegs and inviting green complexes. The course is highly photogenic in spring bloom and around sunrise. A full resort practice area sits nearby, and the walk is enjoyable with modest elevation changes. It's the more forgiving of the two Callaway courses but still tests short game touch.

UPDATE**** Callaway reached out to me personally and made it right. Our recent stay at Callaway Gardens was incredibly disappointing. The property itself is beautiful, but the execution from start to finish was extremely poor. For starters, this is not a place for anyone under 40. There’s simply not enough to do. Everything closes early. Even the bar area closes at 10. You find yourself ‘relaxing’ quite a bit more than you want to. From the moment we arrived, things felt off. The front desk staff on Friday gave the impression that we were interrupting them rather than being welcomed as guests. Signage throughout the property — including roads and biking trails — is inadequate, and you’re essentially forced to download the app just to navigate from one end to the other. We noticed upon arrival that there were yoga classes scheduled for Saturday at 8 and 9 a.m. We woke up early to attend on 2/21, only to find that no class was happening. No notice, no explanation. Friday night we dined at the Tap Room, and the food was underwhelming at best. On Saturday we decided to try the Piedmont restaurant, only to discover it had the exact same menu as the Tap Room the night before. That was another letdown. After the failed yoga attempt, we decided to golf. The clubhouse couldn’t be reached by phone, and when I walked to the front desk to ask, I was told golf was closed because it had rained earlier that morning. I’ve never encountered a golf course that closes simply because of rain — especially when it hadn’t rained in over four hours and the ground was dry. That was frustrating, to say the least. We then tried the Discovery Center restaurant and were told it was grab-and-go cold items only. Another disappointment. When we went to rent bikes, I was informed they don’t accept cash — which was an issue since I only carry cash while on vacation. To make matters worse, my wife twisted her ankle, and none of the ice machines in the building were working. The staff at the grab-and-go station reluctantly filled a bag with ice for us, and their demeanor made it feel like we were inconveniencing them. The luggage rack was broken. Overall, many employees seemed unfriendly and lacking basic hospitality. Having stayed at resorts all over the country, this was without question the worst resort experience we’ve had. The setting is stunning, but the service, communication, and overall execution fell far short of expectations.

I had not been to Callaway Gardens in many years; I believe since I was a pre-teen/teenager. My family and friends just spent a weekend at The Villas to celebrate a birthday. It was a beautiful stay, although rainy. I wish we could have done some bike riding and hiking. But we did visit the butterfly museum, the log cabin, and the light show. It was still memorable, and Callaway Gardens has maintained its beauty and accommodations as I remember. I cannot wait to return with my daughter next spring or early summer so we can go bike riding and explore more of the grounds. The Villas are very nice. Very roomy bedrooms and bathrooms, with several outdoor areas. We stayed in 1051 Duck Pond Branch. Full kitchen, outdoor deck, screen porch, fireplace, and a loft bedroom area with two queen-size beds and a sitting area. The main level bedroom also had two queen-size beds, a sitting area, and its own microwave.

Callaway gardens are beautiful and I have enjoyed them many times. The first time I tried to stay in the resort, it was very empty and I was given a parking lot view. The shower was filled with some sort of slime. We went to eat at the “nice” on site restaurant and received some half frozen microwaved meatloaf on a disposable plastic plate for $24. As we headed back to the room we saw on the wall the health score was a 77!

Dear Callaway Resort and Gardens Team, I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent stay on February 28. While the property is beautiful, my experience did not meet expectations given the $260 rate for the night. I was disappointed to find that despite advertisements stating stay includes complementary breakfast, I was informed upon inquiry that this was not available. Additionally, my room lacked basic amenities such as spoons for tea. When I called the front desk to request them, I was told there were no spoons in the entire building, which felt dismissive rather than helpful. The overall level of service lacked a warm welcome, with the exception of the car attendant who was very professional. Unfortunately, I did not feel the value of the stay matched the cost and I likely will not return. Best regards, Jojo Phillips

OK I paid 40 per person to see the christmas lights. So for the money I paid to come see lights. I waited in line to get in the park for an 1 hr 20 min. Then once in the park I waited another 45min. Just to see lights. Got here at 8 o'clock. Its 953 and still haven't seen the lights in the park. Nothing but brake lights. Callaway gardens do better. For the price we paid. We shouldn't have to wait more then 2 hours to see lights. Thats crazy. Making a left into the park takes entirely to long. The cop that is directing let's the people turning right into park go way more then the people turning left. Crazy but we paid. 200dollars for a 2 hour wait.
