Description

A historic Atlanta muni named for civil rights pioneer Alfred Tup' Holmes, the course rides rolling ground that once saw Civil War action. Tree lined corridors and two meandering creeks create strategy without excessive length. The layout is straightforward, walkable, and welcoming to a wide range of players. Greens are on the smaller side, putting a premium on wedge play and recovery shots. Locals value the course's role in desegregating public golf as much as the affordable, no frills golf it provides today.

Condition of the course left a lot to be desired. Most tee boxes were completely dirt. I have never played worse tee boxes in my life (across hundreds of courses played)—hence the one-star rating. On course restroom was locked/out of service. Substantial backup on tee #9 (four groups on tee). No on-course marshal regulating play (the foursome in front of us turned into a fivesome on #9). The course did not have enough carts available for the afternoon wave. Pro shop was out of service at 3:30PM on a weekend so staff could “clean” (never encountered that at any golf course on a weekend). 5 hour round. I appreciated their being water on the course, and the greens were good. However, the practice green was uncut, so the on-course greens were at least 4 times faster. I’ve been in ATL four years and came to play a new course; I got that. However, I will not be returning.

Nice course but if it's busy, be ready to wait for a cart. Otherwise the staff was really professional and the course is very well maintained.

After such a negative experience at Legacy, it was actually refreshing to see a club care about its customers… I highly recommend take the 16 mile drive from Smyrna, pace of play 3.5 hours for par 72 or 4 hours for executive course with attitude!!

I’m torn with how I feel about this course because the price is fantastic and the layout is great. It’s big with open/wide fairways, you don’t have to worry about hitting homes or the roads, there are plenty of fun holes; whoever designed this course knew what they were doing. But, whoever is taking care of the course doesn’t. My biggest gripe with the course is the grass. There’s no distinction between fairways, rough, fringe, OB, and on some holes even the green!! The grass is just one height across the board which makes it incredibly frustrating when you hit a great shot down the fairway and lands in 1.5” high grass. On top of that, large portions of the grass were infected with weeds that clearly haven’t been taken care of by the landscapers (see pictures below). But the icing on the cake was management deciding to dye the greens midway through the day when the course is packed. I was speechless when I was half way through hole 2 and looked on the green to see them spraying the greens mid-day. Any golfer knows you shouldn’t touch that stuff when it’s fresh, aside from the fact that there are chemicals in it, you’ll get green dye all over your hands and ball. So nobody (with a brain) was putting that day. Grass aside, there was some other questionable up-keeping around the course. Such as bunkers that became as hard as a rock and fallen trees on tee boxes. I really wanted to like this course as it’s near my house, a great price, and a good design. But after the disastrous round that I had, I won’t be returning and will happily pay a few extra dollars at other courses.

Fairways and greens are fine, however the teeboxes are absolutely horrible. The design is not good either (hole 17 especially) weird tee shots totally blocked by trees.
