I have been playing at Atlantis Golf Club occasionally for over 40 years and have enjoyed every round until today, when I quit after playing 3 holes. It was perfect golf weather, and as expected, the course was packed. I expected slow play, but nothing like today. We were ready to tee off at 1:07, and noticed that a walking twosome of young boys was inserted in front of us. I asked an Atlantis employee (not sure if he was the ranger/starter) where did these two players come from because I did not see any twosomes on the Tee times ahead of us. I was told that they were put in because they were relatives of an "owner". But when I asked the pro shop, I was told that they did have a time, but she couldn't tell me the time. Not sure what the true story is, but I do know what happened next. Initially I was positive, and I hoped that the speed of play would pick up, but it didn't. We waited to hit every shot on each of first three holes and quit at 2:00. Those three holes took us 53 minutes to play and at that pace of play, it would have been about a 5 and 1/2 round of agonizing slow golf ending in the dark. I never saw a ranger the whole time, or I would have discussed it with him. After sharing my frustration with a Pro Shop staff member, she reminded me that "it was the season" and basically intimated that I should have expected it, and she wasn't that empathetic or concerned that our round was ruined. Not one "sorry for the bad experience" was expressed. She offered a rain check, but I asked for a credit to my card, but I was told that the only way I could get my money back was to call GolfNow. She gave me the number to call. I am typing this review while I have been on hold with Golfnow to get a credit. I have been waiting for over 50 minutes now. At this rate, I could have wasted those 50 minutes playing another aggravating two holes. On a more positive note, the 3 holes we did play were beautiful, the bag staff was courteous, and the restaurant wait staff and food, as usual, were good. Instead of turning out to be a perfect, memorable golf day, it became a frustrating, miserable mess of bad memories for the worst reasons. Looks like the course was grossly overbooked, and the decision to insert two more slower walkers just backed everything up. Shame on the management for letting this happen.
