This is about the golf course. The staff was as you expect. This course is not good. An awful layout. The cart path only is ok , if the cart paths were not unmaintained dirt paths. Don't worry about getting into a rhythm, because you won't. The greens are mostly some type of felt patch that is different height and speed of the real grass(when you can find it). Not much fun. For $85 you can play somewhere else.

I went over Memorial Day weekend and it was still early in the season for the course. It was extremely hard to golf with the condition the course is in. But I would like to come back in a month or 2 to see if it is in better shape. I liked the hole layouts just was very rough when we went.

When you're traveling on vacation and choose a golf course by information and pictures on the Internet only you run the risk of getting lucky or being disappointed. Today I was somewhere in between. Shining mountain Golf Course is a decent course that I was disappointed in some aspects and surprise that. Definitely cannot go wrong with the staff. Everybody that I ran into today or interacted with was super nice and really helpful. Pro shop is well stocked. The pluses to the golf course or the scenery and the well-kept fairways and greens. They're still trying to recover from ice damage on a couple of the greens but it wasn't very bad throughout. The minuses for me were no balls at the driving range to warm up and no paved cart paths. I was constantly dodging potholes on the cart path that they did have. This is a tight course in certain areas and you absolutely positively have to keep your ball straight. If not you're going to be up on the side of the mountain. It also has very tall rough and if you get off the fairway you can easily walk past your ball 3,4,5 times before you find it. I definitely enjoyed myself because it can be typically frustrating when you're playing at course by yourself that you know nothing about. I'm glad I chose it and I would recommend playing the course if you're in the area. It was easily 10 to 14° cooler up at the course and it was done at my hotel thank you shining mountain Golf Course for your friendliness.

Shining mountain is difficult course as the fairways are narrow; mountain course style. Therefore bring out your irons more often off the tee box. It’s always a stunning place to escape the office on a weekday. I’d recommend this mountain course for anyone who wants to test their game in the glorious high-country of Colorado. Hole 17 is my favorite par-3 w/ water element and pikes peak in the distance as your aim-point! -Steve Sato

The staff was friendly, and the views were nice—but that’s where the positives end. The fairways were in rough shape, with patchy grass and bare spots everywhere. The greens were the worst I’ve ever played on—covered in sand, chewed up, and completely inconsistent. Putting felt more like a game of Plinko than golf. Charging $70 for this course is laughable. At that price, you’d expect a playable track, not a maintenance project. Unless the goal was to practice your bunker shots on every green, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
