Description

Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora is a standout prairie-links layout, designed by Ken Kavanaugh, stretching over 7,500 yards with gently rolling terrain and open fairways. The course is dotted with over 80 bunkers, ponds, and creeks that introduce strategic challenges, particularly when the wind blows across the exposed landscape. Ample tee options cater to a wide range of abilities, while expansive greens and robust practice facilities make it a favorite for both serious rounds and honing your game. The rustic, homestead-themed clubhouse and quality food-and-beverage offerings contribute to a memorable experience. Hosting the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the course is well-regarded for its immaculate conditioning and test-of-skill layout.

Played course on 29 June 2025. Before I even get to the course, I would like to acknowledge that the workers are awesome. From the started, cart guys, cart girl, and the young man in the pro shop. They were kind and welcoming. The course itself is in spectacular conditions. Squared away tee boxes, well cut fairways, bunkers maintained, and the greens roll pure. The course is VERY challenging and the rough makes you pay!! A lot of dog legs which require some shot shaping. The course also has great amenities and practice facilities. Can't go wrong at this course. Well worth the money.

One of the best public tracks in the Denver area. Course is always in great shape. Greens are quick but roll true. MC was the host site of the 2008 US Amateur Public Links Championship (changed to the Four Ball Championship in 2015). MC is a links style layout that was probably second to none in 2008. Now, housing developments have taken over and blocked out a lot of the great views that the course probably once had. (The two worst things a golf course can have are trees and houses). Front 9 has homes being built now but is still mostly unscathed . The back 9 has homes surrounding 8/9 holes. Course is walkable and they have walking only areas to help navigate. Fairways are wide and make the course very playable for people of all skill levels. in true links fashion, there's very little forced cary and there's a variety of different ways that you can play each hole. Better players will score better when they know which side of the hole to place their approach. Water comes into play on 3 holes. Font 9 has some waste bunker areas that give the course character but don't come into play often for the better players. Practice facilities are some of the best I've ever seen at a public course. Grass driving range, chipping area with 2 bunkers and a large apron area to practice any kind of short game shot you want. Their Putting green is huge and they also have an area to work on approach shots (90 yards and in) where you can play to two separate greens.

This was the first time I played a round at this course, and I was not disappointed with any facet of my experience. First, the pro shop is amazing. They had so many items I had never seen before; I wish I had arrived earlier to browse longer. The staff is first class and very friendly. Service in the restaurant is speedy, too. The course was in excellent shape and was challenging and fun. The on course beverage service was very attentive, and our group did not go thirsty on a day when the temperature reached above 100 degrees. I can't wait to return to this course many times before the season ends.

Challenging and fun course! Greens roll true and fast. Back nine is bit more challenging.

On any other day, I would have given Murphy Creek four stars. The course is fun, well maintained, and most of the staff are friendly. Unfortunately, my group had a very unpleasant experience due to one specific staff member. Early in the morning, the starter came across as dismissive and pushy. His tone was unnecessarily disrespectful, and if I hadn’t backed down, it could easily have escalated into an argument. I even sensed a hint of bias, though I’ll refrain from making that judgment outright. Our group could easily have reached the green from the tee, yet the starter rushed us to hit. I come to golf to enjoy the round, not to be barked at. Later, on the back nine, the same staff member approached us again, telling us to speed up play. There was no one behind us, and our GPS showed we were only two minutes behind pace — due to a slower group ahead. When my son politely asked why we were being pushed when there was clearly a group in front and no one behind, the marshal replied, “I don’t care.” That response says it all. I’ve played at every Aurora golf course for nearly 40 years, and this is the first time I’ve encountered such poor customer service. It’s disappointing to see Murphy Creek hire someone who doesn’t represent the course or the city well. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because experiences like this can drive loyal players elsewhere.
