Timber Creek Golf Course (Sierra Pines)

location icon 7050 Del Webb Blvd
Phone icon (916) 774-3851

Description

Sierra Pines is the newer nine-hole sister to Timber Creek’s Lakes and Oaks courses, located in the active-adult community of Sun City Roseville. Built in 1997 by Billy Casper and Greg Nash, Sierra Pines plays as a fun, scenic par-36 with broad fairways and well-protected greens. It offers a more relaxed and quick loop compared to its 18-hole counterpart, but still tests accuracy with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. The practice facilities here are outstanding, with a large range, target greens, and full short-game area.

One of my favorite golf courses in the area. The scenery was beautiful and the course challenging. There is a putting, chipping and driving range. The amenities are well maintained with an upscale feel. This is a great date spot, if both people are into playing golf. IG: SACRAMENTOHONEY

I will start by saying - I am not a golfer! That being said, my dad was and he loved golfing at both of Sun City's golf courses including the Timber Creek Golf Course. Also my sweet son-in-law is and he very much enjoys golfing at both of these golf courses too! For me - I thoroughly enjoyed a visit with friends as I walked around the golf course and thought I'd share how lovely it is. (I realize golfing is the top priority, but a lovely golf course is much more enjoyable than an ugly, ill-kempt one. Plus for those golfers who take non-golfing spouses, I thought this would be a good encouragement for them that they will enjoy the trip, even if they don't golf. 😀). These grounds are DEFINITELY beautifully maintained. There are a variety of lovely views including beautiful tall trees, gorgeous green shrubbery, open areas and sweet hidden areas. Because Sun City is designated as a bird sanctuary by the Audubon society, there are a wide variety of birds to enjoy including some of my favorites like ducks, geese, and the beautiful white egrets we occasionally get to enjoy seeing. If you are walking rather than riding a golf cart, it's an easy walk overall but it definitely is a lot of walking. Great exercise for sure. I would take a water bottle or two with you even in the winter. This is indeed a well-kept beautiful golf course that golfers and even the occasional non-golfers with the golfers can thoroughly enjoy it!

Today, June 10, 2023, both the practice green and short game area were closed, and apparently have been closed for multiple months while they're being rehabbed. I'm sure the final result will be worth this inconvenience, but I wasn't aware of it. For the most part, the course is in great shape... except for the bunkers which are in drastic need of attention, either some grooming or new sand. They're almost like hardpan, and many have weeds growing in them. I suppose the staff is focusing on the new practice areas, but I hope they'll give the course itself the attention is deserves.

Mostly Annoyed

Played on Saturday 11/9/24 and the course is not in very good shape. I have played this course many times, but not in the last probably 6 months. The fairways are ragged, and the bunkers are completely unplayable. Absolutely hard as a rock. The greens were decent, but overall I was really disappointed in the condition. The only good part of the day was we walked in in just over 4hrs on a Saturday which is pretty good.
