Description

Formerly known as Traditions, Great Eagle in Surprise is a par 72 course measuring about 6,600 yards. Its routing includes water on several holes and tree lined fairways that reward shot making. It is forgiving off the tee yet demands precision into smaller greens. Locals value it for good conditions at reasonable rates. The facility includes a driving range and putting greens.

Only went to their driving range and was far from impressed. The range-ball dispenser is about 200 yards from the range. They recommend bring you own ball bag/basket. The ground is really torn up, but i think it was time to move the practice area. The range was like hitting into parking lot with pockets of sand, hard to translate your swings to a manicured course.

I was hesitant to try this course due to the low ratings, but my playing partner convinced me to try it. I play the Grand courses and they are pristine. when i pulled into the course i noticed the fairways were all green and well cared for. It is an older course where most fairways are straight away to the greens and bordered by many moguls. like most courses this time of year, you get off the fairways and the Bermuda is dormant which is to be expected as most courses can't afford the seed and water costs. Greens are beautiful and ill admit cared for better that Grand. The bunkers are better than most in the valley with premiere sand. There are many water features, but many are dry, attesting to the cost of water. The guest fees are a little high, but this is a course that has seen better days. It's obvious that most of the 1-2 ratings were written within the last year or two, but this is a course that has struggled to return to its glory days, spend a lot of money, and is well on their way. Let me mention, too, that the restaurant and bar facilities are very good. Not private club condition yet, but i believe is on the way. I was skeptical, but i gave it a chance. You might want to, also.

Played here on Feb 7th which was a Saturday. The course itself is in acceptable condition but the cart path is basically none existent, it was like riding an ATV. And they need to manage their tee times better, it was way over crowded, way over. I know it’s Saturday but It was a complete traffic jam and we didn’t even finish 18. I have never seen such a log jam of golfers in my life! Teed off at 1:20 and we only got to the 15th tee box by dark. Unacceptable and no refund or credit to another round. There is a sign saying this so they know they are ripping people off being greedy herding golfers out there like cattle. Not to mention the driving range is trash and all the water stations were empty…

Course is in amazing shape. From tee box to green the layout leaves you a variety of ways to play each hole, I commonly play one fairway from the adjacent fairway 😆Just got back for this season and the clubhouse had a whole new drink menu and adding more food by the week. They have also finished the outdoor deck, which was a major improvement and great place to hang out.

BELIEVE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS AND YELP EVEN WORSE Never again, I always excepted that Great Eagle was the arm pit golf course in the west valley after Villa DePaz closed, their best hole is the one you can see from Bell rd, downhill from there but last Sunday was the end for my wife and I. I had a 1:24 tee time last Sunday (2/22) we paid in the office and was at the first tee about 1:10... a group teeing off with all 4 drives about 50-80 yards and not one in the fairway so we knew it would be a slow pace... the 1:15 group showed up and the started said "your after them" and grouped us with another twosome... great as they were good guys. Within 10-15 minutes there was 4 carts at the front of the tee box after the 1:15 teed off, I asked the starter what he's doing and he said "im trying to figure this out" I heard a group in a cart say "he's sending out a group of 8 and im getting behind them"... I looked up at the first tee and there was 4 carts with 8 people all high fiving each other and now this other group gets behind them as they are fed up, it is now 1:40 and there are five carts in front of us... I again asked the starter what's going on and why is he sending out a group of 8 in front of us, he showed me his clipboard and said "see... its two 4-somes" and I told him... yes but they are way after our name on your clipboard... he said "im sorry I just messed up" but the 1:15 group was still about 150-200 yards out so why not just put us out if front of the group of 8 as the 1:24 after the 1:15 group like we're supposed to and he wouldn't do it. We went back for a refund, I guess you need to be one of the course buddies. I understand these courses catering to their old snowbirds but when they're gone your left with a dead off season and passed off locals. My wife and I played there as they offer a 9 hole option, we just found out the course down the street 10 times better than arm pit Great Eagle offers 9 holes for the same price. If your a jeans cut off, 12 pack drinking group needing 18 mulligans to break 100 or 90 years old... Great Eagle is your course.
