Description

Earl Stone's Deer Run mixes mountain style elevation changes with valley holes that bring five lakes and 30 bunkers into play. Bentgrass greens are a highlight, staying smooth through the season when many Alabama surfaces struggle. The course offers four sets of tees, so locals can choose a relaxed loop or a sterner challenge. A full practice setup range, short game and putting green encourages pre round tune ups. It's a friendly par 72 that rewards patience off the tee and crisp irons into contoured targets.

A hidden gem. Very fun course with lots of elements like water, sand, trees, elevation changes. A lot of beautiful scenery. Very quiet and peaceful. The sand on the course is fine powder. Really good sand traps to play from. Very good grass. The greens are very well kept and lots of shape and undulating changes. Playing this course will help improve your game.

We paid $46.80/person for 18 holes on a Sunday. Between the craters in the greens, the sinkholes in the cart path, and lack of food and drinks, we thought we’d booked a tee time on the Gaza Strip. The website says that the clubhouse closes at 5pm. We finished the 9th hole at 4:55 and stepped into the clubhouse at 4:56 to grab a Gatorade. We were told with an attitude that they had been closed, keep in mind the only thing they had to do to open back up was flip the light switch on. So with a clear line of sight to the drinks, we turned around and played the back nine with nothing to drink in 90 degree weather. No water coolers, no vending machines outside, the only thing we had was a slight breeze. The greens were covered in crabgrass, the tee boxes looked like fairway bunkers, and the actual fairway and green side bunkers had rocks in them. Overall the course and staff were terrible. No customer service, and course maintenance was awful.

Course condition was great. But tee times for a course this rural is a sign of management that's disconnected from its customers'needs. It's so far from major population centers it's hard to make your tee time unless you give yourself an extra half early arrival time. Course would see an increase in players if they ditched tee times or booked walk-ins as they got there around tee times. It's just a fact tee times don't make sense here. But a great grounds crew and course design.

Greens are trash, no water coolers, tee boxes were sand traps. Not a $40 course at all. Older gentlemen in the clubhouse is rude, got there three minutes before my tee time and he said you need to hurry up and get to #1. I know why the local golfers go somewhere else now. Save your money and go anywhere but here. I would say the mid-90's Indian Hills course was in better condition and that's not good.
