Description

Roman Nose State Park Golf Course in Watonga is one of Oklahoma's most unique public golf experiences. Nestled in a canyon, the course features dramatic elevation changes and rugged natural beauty. Narrow fairways and sloping greens demand accuracy, rewarding players who manage their way around carefully. The views from elevated tees are some of the most striking in the state. It's a hidden gem for golfers seeking both challenge and scenic charm.

First time playing this course and played it from the tips. Absolutely loved it! We did lose our fair share of balls, but knew coming in that we should play Kirkland balls and not Titleist 😁. Course played really well and aside from the windy conditions, it was really fun. Great price for the round and leaned that Mondays are a flat rate for all-day golf. Looking forward to my second round at Roman Nose

Heard all about this place for years and finally can scratch it off the list. If you have not played here and are within an hour and half or so make the journey. When you’re done, head to The General Store about a mile from the clubhouse for arguably the best hamburger in the state of Oklahoma. No kidding. It’s incredible. Now the golf: I cannot give this course anymore than 3 stars just because it’s literally putt-putt golf on steroids. It’s just not friendly or fair to even seasoned golfers let alone to those who are high handicappers who hardly play. It’s no joke when people say bring extra balls. My advice is to leave your high end balls at home. Trust me when I say you will lose several here if you’ve never played. You have so many intricate holes and narrow landing areas and so much wasteland to avoid you can’t help but to lose some especially if you’ve never played here and are uncertain where to hit it. The fairways and tee boxes are great for a state park course. The greens are insane and in great shape. Best around. Problem: Some are so small and are as they say like a turtle shell. If you are not in the right spot on approach shots, it goes down a hill. Several you can putt off and go down a hill if you are not careful. The layout has 2 holes that are arguably the hardest holes in the region: #4 and #13. And there are a few more that are close in extreme difficulty if you do not hit a straight ball or know how to manage your golf game. Trust me when I say to leave what you think is your ability to play like Tiger at home. You cannot play hero here. If you cannot break 90 on a local municipal you will not break it here and you will shoot over a 100. Best advice if that’s you? Play from the most forward tees to somewhat try to enjoy the day. You’ve been warned!😎 There are very little if any sand bunker issues to deal with or water holes. You will see uneven lies the majority of the day, shots to hit over wastelands, small greens with massive roll offs on three sides and long par 4’s that will flat out frustrate you right when you think you’re playing good. The on course amenities are 1 star. No water stations so bring your own. No ball washers. Probably because they think you lose em so need to wash em. 😂 No beverage cart either so bring a cooler if needed. Carts are old gas carts and cart paths are busted from start to finish in many areas. But you’re not here for country club aspects, you’re here for a bucket list you’ll never forget. The clubhouse is just a building to take your green fee and get your cart key. The polite and friendly young man at the desk is tallying all the people that looked at the $40.00 hats and didn’t purchase one. If you want a souvenir they have poker chips but that’s about it. Some polos but again the selection of hats could have been cooler and priced better. This course is not about scoring your best round of the month or a place to wager amongst your group, possibly. It’s about playing golf when you come and forget everything else. It’s about saying you finally played it. Enjoy each hole. The views are insane. Even the condition is better than most city courses. Again, this is like a destination item for golf enthusiasts. It’s about enjoying each hole like it’s a separate round of golf. It’s about the experience. It’s about the vibe and views. Break from your local playing and make this journey. You will never forget it.

Roman Nose State Park is such a beautiful place. We went there for a hike during the spring breake. So many nice improvements. New concrete trails for walking and biking, pool was redone, and area around it with nice picnic place, few new cabins. It really looks pretty up there. You should plan a visit. #RomanNosePark #SpringHikes #OklahomaAdventure

Great course! Definitely very difficult if you can't place your shots right where you're aiming.
